Media Player RIP problems

Hey Guys, It's been several months since I last used Windows Media player for anything. The last time I used this program was to create backup copies of some music CDs I wanted to transfer to my external hard drive. Normally I would pop the CD into the computer. Open Media player. Click on "Rip CD" and choose the destination. Never had any problems with this before. It would always transfer the files to where I wanted them to go. Now.. it doesn't want to do that. Instead I get a message saying it can't be done. I go to the options box (see attached photo) and try to change the location where I want the files to rip to. I click on the "change" button and nothing happens. It doesn't even acknowledge that I'm clicking on it. I've seen some videos online that suggest going into the computer settings to switch Media player on and off. I tried that and it made no difference. I can play music from the CD with Media Player but just can't Rip anything.

So I had to use a different program by Nero to get the job done. No big deal but even it has it's quirks.

I know the computer is getting old and eventually I will need to upgrade from Windows7. I'm sure there's better ways to listen/rip music besides media player, but I always found it the easiest to use.

Any suggestions?
