Hi there, I have a Dell Inspiron M5030 laptop which I'd like to add some memory to.

I've looked round and I think it needs 204 Pin 1.5v DDR3 PC3-10600 SoDimm.

I have one 4G memory card (which I bought for a different laptop just before it went faulty and was replaced by a different model). It says on the pack: DDR3 PC3-8500 1066Mhz.

Any idea if this will work - it looks from the picture like it will fit?

Many thanks!

According to the Crucial memory advisor, the M5030 will use:

Memory Type: DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-14900, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Maximum Memory: 8GB
Slots: 2

The memory module you have (DDR3 PC3-8500 1066Mhz) is a slightly "slower" stick but the M5030 should be backwards compatible and be able to use it just fine. According to Dell, there are two memory module slots, or connectors. One should be labeled "DIMM A" and the other "DIMM B". When installing just a single memory stick it typically goes into the first slot ("DIMM A".) When you turn the computer on for the first time with the new module in place, you may see a prompt that new memory has been detected. If by chance the memory is not detected, try switching it to "DIMM B". If it still doesn't work it's either (a) defective, or (b) not being recognized by the M5030.
