Hello,
I was wondering i changed the frequency in the bios from automatic to 400MHz.
I got 2x2GB DDR2_800 400MHz so does this setup improving my system or does it have bad effects?

Friendly kinds,
Joshua Mitchell

Edit: where stand the "800" for?

LOL why is DDR3 memory cheaper then DDR2 :/
Hello Joshua,

It depends on what your BIOS showed the RAM MHz speed as while it was on automatic.

What brand and model number is your RAM?

If they are Crosair 2GB ddr2 800, then yes they could run at 800MHz.

But why can i only change it up to 400MHz @ my bios in stead of 800MHz

I have 3 options:

Auto,
333MHz DDR2_667
400MHz DDR2_800

Ah, ok. Here's what's going on.

DDR2-800 is the same thing as PC2-6400, and runs at a memory bus clock speed (frequency) of 400MHz. However, being DDR2 (DDR2 stands for Double Data Rate type 2) it transfers 2 "chunks" of data per clock cycle with an "effective" transfer rate of 800 MT/s.

It's basically just a bit misleading. You're RAM is actually 400MHz, but effectively like 800MHz. Thus they label as "DDR2 800".

Aaaah okay thanks for the information :D
Its to bad thats the memory only can be modify up to 400MHz.
Btw @ my motherboard i see where my memory goes on (memory slot) the same value of 800MHz
So my motherboard supports a DDR2 800MHz bank.
I allready flashed my BIOS into the last version (2.10).

Still glad you could help me i appreciate it ^^
