MEMORYx58 to z87

Hi all just to ask I have some triple channel memory 3 sticks that came out of a asus sabertooth x58.
My son is building a new comp with a asus z87 pro its a dule channel.
my ? is can he use my old memory just 2 sticks of it only? well it work ?

OCIR if they came out of the same package for example as a three pack set then they should all be within reason the same specs as each other.

I bought a 16GB G Skill set and ended up taking out two sticks leaving 8GB and it has made no difference.

I think it is when you start mix matching the brands and GB's that you start to get real problems.
Anyway try it with one stick if ok then put in another.

One thing you can do though is to check up with your sons motherboard RAM support info first. If we knew what that board was then it would be easier to advise.
