Merging 2 partitions together

is it possible to merge 2 partition together.
i have local disc c
and another on thats empty right now
and i want to merge them together
is it possible
pleze help me???

The program that I now for this things is Partition magic .. enables creation and modification of partitions. Existing partitions can be resized without loss of data.

If you mean two partitions on the same physical HDD, yes. You can use Acronis Disk Director Suite to combine the two partitions, even if one of them contains Windows. You will have to be careful though about where your boot files are located. If they are also on C:, then there is no problem. Go ahead and combine partitions. If the boot files are on the partition you are saying is "empty", you will run into boot problems by combining. Prepatory work will be needed.

If you want to make 2 physical HDD work as one partition, that is know as running in RAID. There are many types of RAID so you will have to research what is best for you. You can mirror the drives to make one the exact copy of another, while only appearing as a single drive under Windows. You could span a partition to use all of the combined drive space of 2 or more drives to make a single partition. Many other options.

There is a notion that you should use the same tool used to create your partitions, to merge them back again.

Acronis did a 100% job for me. I installed XP on C: with one partition to start with, used Acronis to create a new partition (from un-used space). Tried installing Windows 7 on the second partition as dual boot but forgot to format it (so end up getting errors and not able to boot Xp). Closed my eyes and merged the two partition back to one and luciky it went smoothly. Xp booted and everyting was like before.

If you can tell us what partitions you have, then we can better understand how to help you.

Click the 'Start Orb'
Right click on 'Computer'
Click 'Manage'
In the 'Computer Management' window, the lower left, under 'Storage', click 'Disk Management'

You will see the Hard Disk information there. Give us the information at the bottom as it is listed from left to right, or give us a screen shot.

If your empty partition is on the right side of your operating system partition, then it can easily be merged using 'Disk Management'.

If it is on the left or before the operating system partition then you will need a Partition Manager program.


You can find a couple of free partition manager programs that will do the job for you. This Seven Forums site has an extensive list of free programs that work with Windows 7.

I have used both of these and they work very well. Partition Wizard is compatible with 64bit and works with 32bit also. Either one will get the partitions adjusted for you.

This partition adjustment is possible to do using 'Disk Management'.
You will need to delete the 2 'empty' partitions, If you have anything in them that you want to keep you can copy or backup to another storage device if you have the available space.
Then you can extend the OS partition to merge the space previously used by the 2 empty partitions. The tutorial listed above is an excellent descriptive step by step procedure.
Have you looked at it?

Are you planning on using 'Disk Management' or one of the Partition management software programs referenced earlier, if you have decided to use one of them, which one?
Disk Management would be the easiest for this case. The Partition management software programs are fairly easy to use but will take a little more time to get it to do what you want, if you haven't used one before.

it all went good
the 2 empty partitions i deleted
then they became unallocated space
then on my primary hardrive i went thorugh the extend volume process
and that all went great so my local disk c is at its max (500gb)
