Hi all
Long story short, I bought windows 7 pro on line I was told by The company that it was a Retail version of windows 7 pro, yesterday I got a message on Monitor saying windows copy of windows 7 is not genuine, got ahold of Microsoft and they told me the version I have was a development versoion and it was not be sold to the general public, so I bought another windows 7 pro from Microsoft, inserted the new product key, got rid of the message of not genuine copy of windows 7, and it is now fully activated, but I typed MSCONFIG IN THE SEARCH, went to processes and all the microsoft processes are stopped or blocked how can I get them to start running again. Thanks Raner

Perhaps you could first check the 'Action Centre' to troubleshoot problems listed.

Just type Action Centre in the 'Search programs and files' box from the Start button.

Raner:

Personally, I would opt for a complete clean install of windows 7. Your on-line purchase was quite obviously bad and might have had trojans or a virus in it. Complete delete of all partitions, create a new partition and install of windows. That way you know your starting out clean.
Just my recommendation.

Fresh Install

I know you are unhappy with doing a new installation but it's honestly the only way to ensure your Windows 7 operates properly. Not only did you buy a pirated version of Pro, but an incomplete version since it was not an RTM version.

If you do not go ahead with a complete new installation with your newly obtained legitimate version of 7 Pro you are opening the doors to potentially many serious security issues as well as unforeseen functionality and update issues down the road.

So please take the time to do a clean install. It's truly in your best interest.

----

I would also file a complaint against the company who sold you the other Windows 7 Pro and get a refund asap.

Getting clean scans is irrelevant. You do not have a fully functional version on your PC, despite the newly obtained legitimate Product Key

Thanks to all for taking the time to answer my post, one question though, I did not buy a pirated copy according to Microsoft it is a developer copy, its for developers only according to microsoft, could that be the reason for the microsoft processes not running, the thing is that it updates does everything its suppose to do, so I don't know if when microsoft saw the old key is stopped all the processes or they were never working to begin with. I had never checked them before so I don't know. Thanks Raner

Look on Computer>Properties page to see what version you have installed.

When you bought the legit key, did you get a retail installer for that version?

If so, run a Repair Install from the desktop on your current install which will keep everything in place while reinstalling the OS. Only if it isn't the same version will it likely refuse to run.

Hey gregrocker, sorry for the delay, did a fresh reinstall, used the easy transfer, but noticed that the programs it transfered are not showing up on the installed program section of control panel, my pc had blazzing speed before all this mess, see the attached report see if you can make heads or tails out of it, I see a bunch of errors after the fresh reinstall at the end of the report. thanks Raner

Raner-

EasyTransfer doesn't reinstall programs, you 'll have to do that yourself. But the Settings might have been reimported if the hidden AppData files under your active User name were reimported - I don't recommend this since it is a corruption path into a fresh new install.

I personally will not use EasyTransfer because I find it easier to back up the Active User folders, then copy them back in manually after install. Since you have to reinstall your Programs anyway, and importing settings is a corruption path, EasyTransfer uses too much space for doing a task which is simpler done manually.

Here are other tips for getting a purrfect reinstall - use the ones which apply to you: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

I most likely posted these tips in your earlier thread, but didn't have the chance to post them here since you didn't mention you were going to reinstall and the last suggestion given was for a Repair Install.

OK GERGROCKER, I'll do fresh install again and will install my programs manually, I have all the diskes for all my stuff, one question since all my programs are on E, F and G drives Nothing on C except the windows & OS, The new fresh Windows 7 will see all the drives as soon as hook them back up after the install. I can delete programs one at a time and reinstall in reinstall them one at a time, so they'll show up as installed programs on my fresh windows 7, do you think that would be the best way of doing it or do you know of a better way. Thanks Raner

Follow the tips given, install programs slowly over time to gauge any performance changes so you know what caused them.

If you bought an Upgrade version, go ahead and wipe the HD for cleanest install, leave the Product Key blank during install, then after install do the quick Registry edit to activate Win7 Upgrade version on cleaned HD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

Remember to use the drivers given by installer and quickly updated by optional Updates, after turning on hardware auto-updating as given in list.

Do you still have XP on the separate HD? If so I would boot it via BIOS Boot menu after install and set Win7 HD to boot first.

Hey Gregrocker, I have the full version not the upgrade version, and yes xp is on a different drive, no problem going in to the bios to set windows window 7 to boot first, when I do fresh install I disconnect all the drives except the one that has the OS that I want to do the fresh install works pretty well for me, than when I'm done I just hock the drives back up Fresh OS see them and bingo there they are with an assinged letter for all there drives and they are ready to go. Thanks Raner
