Microphone not working after upgrading from vista to windows 7

I upgraded my acer aspire 5732z from vista to windows 7 and no the built in mic won't work in fact when I look under recording devices it doesn't show a built in mic just a line in mic. what do I do

First thought, did you install the correct sound driver? If you left Windows install the sound driver most likely it just installed the generic, basic function, HD Audio Codec. If this is the case, install the correct sound driver from Acer. The Vista drivers should work.

Check the Device Manager, Sound section to see what is installed.

I had this a number of years ago - I got a computer savvy friend to look for me and there were no drivers [at that time] for the mike that would work with W7 - HP dv9700. I have a new pc now so can't tell you what hardware it was. I always had sound from within but couldn't use Skpye etc.
