Earphone's microphone not working

Hello

I have a normal earphone with microphone built-in.. Sound works fine but microphone doesn't... I checked it in my smartphone and the microphone worked fine so what can be the issue here?

Info:
I'm running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit
VIA HD Audio is installed and up to date
I checked in the recording devices and there's a green tick mark on microphone with description (VIA HD Audio compatible) default device)

Please tell me if you need more infos/

Does this headset have two plugs, which is what is required for PC/Laptop use if you have just one plug on the headset you will need to purchase a splitter or a headset designed for PC/laptop use

Oh my! this is so embarrassing I didn't know that I should do this to use the microphone! in fact I never thought about it before lol
