Microphone not working. Audio Device Error.

Hi.
I bought the Editors Keys Studio Series SL300 Microphone. The Mic is supposed to have all of the required drivers already installed inside of it so that when you plug it into the computer it will be ready to go (it's a USB Mic btw). The problem is when I plug the mic in, it says that the USB Audio Device is not working properly. When I look under the properties for that device it says: Device Status-This device cannot start. (Code 10). I've tried troubleshooting the device and everything but nothing is working. All of the other devices installed in the mic are working properly, just not this one. Since it won't work properly the mic does not even get detected by my laptop, it doesn't show up under detected recording devices.

In case it helps, my computer is an Acer Aspire V3-571

I think I tried everything.
-I did troubleshooting.
-I reset my computer back to factory defaults, so I don't have previously installed drivers conflicting with this one.
-I've reset my computer multiple times and reinstalled the mic multiple times.

If anyone has an ideas it would be great, Thanks!

Hi mattster15,

'Error Code 10' is generated when the 'external device' has no drivers installed on your computer; or the drivers are configured incorrectly. You may want to refer to the following link: Description of Code 10-related errors that Device Manager generates in Windows-based computers

I failed to find related drivers on the manufacturer's website; says that the device is designed to work with Mac/PC: The SL300 Condenser USB Microphone - Both Mac & PC Compatible - Used by thousands of professional recording artists | Editors Keys

You may try the following steps to see if they work for you:
Open 'Device Manager' > Expand 'USB Controllers' > Right click and uninstall all 'USB Root Hubs' listed in the list > Go to 'Action' in 'File Menu' (top-left) > Select 'Scan for hardware changes' > Check if the 'Microphone' installs itself now

If it still does not work and shows a 'yellow mark' besides it, you may want to contact the 'part manufacturer' to check the 'device compatibility' with the 'operating system' installed in your unit.

Good Luck!

I tried it, but it still didn't work. I know it's not the mic itself because I tried it on my friends laptop and it worked immediately. Not sure what to do now. I guess I could call the part manufacturer, not really sure who that would be. I looked on editors keys and couldn't find any number to call.

When I tried the procedure that you said it seemed like it was going to work at first. The Mic started reinstalling itself and it showed the status 'this device is working' then after a few seconds it gets the yellow marker beside it and its status changes to 'this device cannot start (error code 10)'

I am trying to figure out how to get in contact with the parts manufacturer, I'll be kind of annoyed if it is incompatible with my laptop because I thought the mic was meant to work with all Mac and PCs.

I see in the data sheet that is says it works with PC and MAC's but I see no mention of what OS it works with in the PC environment. Which tells me that it might not work with all windows OS....

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium- Acer Aspire V3-571
Windows 7 would be my operating system then right?

http://www.editorskeys.com/downloads/editors-keys-usb-mic-user-manual.pdf
This manual on the editors keys website says that the mic can be used on Windows 7 (it has a part in it about setting up the mic on windsows 7) so I don't think that could be the problem...

Any other ideas?
Thanks for the help btw guys!

Did you set it up according to the manual? Make it your default input device?

I can't even do what the manual says because the mic is not showing up anywhere on my computer.
I went to control panel > hardware and sound > sound > recording tab, but I can't do what the manual says there because the mic is not even showing up as an option like the manual says it should.

The only time my computer seems to detect the mic is when I plug it in.
A small screen called Driver Software Installation comes up and it says
- USB Composite Device - Ready to use
- USB Audio Device - Failed
- USB Input Device - Ready to use

It also detects the mic if I go to >Start>Devices and printers
There is a section called unspecified and in that section it shows the Editors Keys SL300 Mic with a yellow troubleshoot symbol beside it. I tried using the troubleshooting a bunch of times but it never works.

Tried contacting the company that I bought the mic from, but I think they are away for the holidays. Any other ideas in the meantime?

Hi mattster15,

Thank you for the reply.

Was wondering if you've tried updating the 'audio drivers'; that may fix the issue. You may also try using the 'microphone' with another computer to see if that makes any difference.

You may also run the 'Recording Troubleshooter':
- Click 'Start icon' > 'Control Panel' > In the 'search box', type 'troubleshooter' > Click 'Troubleshooting' > Underneath 'Hardware and Sound' > Click 'Troubleshoot audio recording'.* (If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation)

Also share the current status of 'Device Manager' page; to access 'Device Manager', click 'Start icon' > Type
'devmgmt.msc' (without quotations) in 'Search Programs and Files' text box > Tap 'Enter' > Expand 'Ports (COM & LPT)' and 'USB Serial Bus Controllers' and capture details of any 'device' with a 'yellow mark' besides it.

Please share the findings; glad to assist.

Sirs,

I don't think it is your setup. I work on a MAC and a PC everyday. I am working on a MAC OS X and the USB SL 300 microphone will not show up. I too bought the microphone in December 2012. I have successfully got it to show up only one time on a MAC. I ended up having to go back to a previously old USB microphone (that shows up instantly). I am not sure what the problem is and I have logged a ticket with Editors Keys. Did you get this fixed? DId you go back to the company... what was the problem's resolution?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Sue

hey mate, this is gonna sound silly but I had the same problem with this mic only to realise that i plugged it in the wrong way, see the USB connector fits in both ways, one way it doesnt read the driver properly and the other way it does, this may be your problem :)
