But the exe. file won't open in Windows. Don't I need to get the whole lot onto a disk?

I think it will eventually...on my netbook it took almost 5 minutes to open.

By the way I disabled my A/V just in case.

Since it won't install on my current install (which I wanted to do to test the file), I'm wondering now if I should risk the clean install and then try to install it in order to see if it will install on a fresh install.

have you got the recent windows update (KB976902) which refers to service pack files?

Mine opens as soon as I click on it, don't know what the issue is with it taking forever to open for you. Might be because mine's corrupt in some way.

Looks like I might have to. This is what I got. The exe. file is an nfo file so it won't open.
I could find a nfo file opener but would it install?

nfo files are normally text files, often info for torrents. you can open them in notepad.

what's the middle file in your screenie?

It appears to be an installer but it starts "preparing your computer" and then fails with error 0x800f0a12.

That was on my netbook...slow processor, slow everything plus I was installing from a thumb drive. I decided to install the x86 SP on that first just to see how it went and it's about two thirds the way through installing now.

Hmm, but all the x64 .exe installs you download without the .iso are 903Mb, not 633ish.

did you have to patch some system files to get the theme working in the first place?

Go to Local Disk and delete the 'eb414bfc11dc62687cc096bd' folder, then try again
Run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html and reinstall the SP1
