Microsoft Keeps Beating a Dead Browser

I use Firefox 3.5 in Windows 7, and it beats every other browser I've tested (IE8, Chrome, FF3.0).

If Microsoft really wants to win the wars? They need to buy out Mozilla and re-brand it. With NO major changes made to the browser or dev team of course.

I don't see any "hate anything MS" crowd here. Even the strongest opinion here comes from members who are generally active in a positive way in this Win 7 Community who actively use Microsoft products.
Crtitcism even dislike does not equal hate , certainly not "hate anything MS".

f**k IE8. and that's all, i have, to say, about, that.
(lol @ forest gump ref)

dont buy into MS's scheme, Aussies! those starving countries need to learn how to farm!
so, in the scope, IE8 is making people stupider-er! farm dammit! farm!

ok, im going to sleep. (FF, FTW)

I see no perceivable difference in page load times between FF3.5 and IE8 (maybe there is if you have a slower processor or internet connection). I keep on coming back to IE8 because it has a streamlined UI (when you remove unnecessary toolbars), favorites are easily accessed on your hard drive, accelerators actually help with tasks, its quite customizable without the need for add-ons, and it integrates well with Windows (group policy, windows updates, file association)

Sure it doesn't support some standards like CSS3, HTML5, and SVG but most people won't go to sites that use that. Also embedded video in HTML5 actually takes up more CPU time than Flash or Silverlight right now.

That last part is a good observation there. Sometimes I have to go into the security settings to disable animations on pages due to how long it takes a page to load fully due to those not the browser itself being used! That's one item people are missing when trying to make comparisons.

I still have to slap that so far way eee thing on for the 4 version while not even needed. Opera definitely comes in second over IE8 with Chrome nodging past FF despite looking like an only 20% complete alternate version of IE! Where the .... are the settings?

As far as crashes? I haven't seen one browser yet that won't stall for some reason at some time!

Here's another view on the new accelerators seen in IE 8 from the Windows Experience Blog titled: "Internet Explorer 8 helps you save time with Accelerators"

"There’s been a great deal of more talk lately about browser performance. You may have seen some previous discussion about page load performance as you saw here in a video and whitepaper in March. Page load ensures that you get to where you want to go quickly. But page load time differences actually measure about the length it takes for a person to blink their eye once, making a win for any browser pretty inconsequential as far as time savings go.
However, Internet Explorer 8 today offers a feature that saves you time and clicks and lets you get things done more quickly: Accelerators. Accelerators optimize the browser experience by removing repetitive, time consuming actions and give people easy access to the online services they use most. You can discover new Accelerators for Internet Explorer 8 at the Internet Explorer 8 Add-ons Gallery.
With all the talk about performance, we wanted to see what features like Accelerators really meant for time savings when people use the web, so we created another video looking at common tasks people actually do in four browsers: Safari 4.0, Chrome 2.0 beta, Firefox 3.5 beta 99 and Internet Explorer 8. Please note, all tests were performed using the default installation settings for each browser. No additional add-ons or extensions were added.
Here is a video that shows off how Accelerators in Internet Explorer 8 make your browsing experience quicker and easier:"

LOL wow this is a HIGHLY discussed topic. Anyways I'm just reporting news, not my opinion.

I like FF, but thats because I'm used to it. I like how it looks (and its customization, I have it all glassy) better than IE and Chrome. I have found both Chrome and FF completely stable, have not used IE AT ALL in YEARS. Except at school, and I want to rip my hair out then. No tabs kills me (IE7 not 8).

And at this point, I would like (as OP) to respectfully request a divergance of this thread back onto its original track: Is IE8 truly a dead browser? Or will it indeed rise again, if it had ever fallen? Please stop comparing browsers. This thread is for a discussion of IE ALONE. Thank you.

Maybe one day MS will make the browser render correctly. Right now it doesn't even pass the old acid test and the new acid test , lets not even go there, IE8 its a joke.

What do you mean "no tabs in IE 7/8"? The first thing I do here once any 7 installation is complete is... uncheck one item in particular! :D

Well it is an IE with no tab capability. So 6 I guess.....?

I don't know, I just hate it. Put FF on my flash to use. I needed my tabs and bookmarks!

I've said for a long time. Microsoft needs to build from the ground up. Just imagine if they had been the ones to come out with Chrome.

Their problem is...they have 60% of the world using it and they don't like change. They are better off not messing with the UI. They are trying to gut it and leave the UI the same and it sucks. Chrome rules! Put your bookmarks in a new folder on the left side and you're done. You have one of the fastest, nicest browsers in the world.

MS included their own first look at tabbed browsing with IE 7 there. You automatically saw that when first installing 7 there anyways being the default setting for IE 8 included.

Chrome is a rather half baked version of IE there where they simply placed the favorites renamed to bookmarks on the opposite but left off the menu bar for things like Chrome tools.

If chrome is a half baked version of IE8 why does it score so much better on every browser test out there and handle javascript so much better? Why does every tab operate in isolation? It keeps getting better and better and it was good when it came out in Sept. 2008. IE is nothing in comparison.

When you really take a good look at it you'll notice right off it sadly lacks the options you would normally expect to find in other browsers. IE, Opera, FF, So far eeek:shock: all see maintainence options, builtin support, view settings, and other things lacking in Chrome.

It looks more the mirror reflection of IE with the menu, command, status bars not included.

Have you tried the little add-on IE Tab, which among other things easily allows you to open a tab in Firefox which embeds internet explorer.

Microsoft should not try to promote a dead browser. It should bring it back to life and make it so good no other browser can even compete with it. Then IE9 or later, I will be back on Microsoft's side.
