=============================================

I installed a completely new Win7 OS on this HP laptop in the middle of NOV earlier this year with superb help from Greg Rocker and his crew. It's worked fine until the owner started receiving the following message:

"Windows did not pass genuine validation.
Security Essentials will become disabled in 29 days if
you do not resolve this issue.

To continue using Security Essentials, click Go online
and resolve now and get genuine Windows."

Would someone please shed some light on the problem and suggest a fix?

Thanks in advance...

did you put your CD key during setup? and did you go to Start---Control Panel--- System and at the very bottom it should say "windows is not activated"

30 days (or less) to activate windows.

This happens because even though you entered the key, microsoft still needs to activate your copy. by phone or online.

Thanks, and I'll post back here...

What six-installation license is this? I've not heard of it.

Does it require Enterprise version, for VLK activation? This is to be administered by a company or organization's IT Pro.

After such a long time since I started this thread, I've finally put my hands on the owner's system again and 1) run the MCADIAG .exe file and 2) followed the posting instructions. Below are the results. Is there still a chance that I can activate this system's Win7 install, because my attempts to validate/activate with the product ID I have are unsuccessful, yet I could have sworn that I successfully accomplished this before ?!

I apologize for the extended time it's taken to retrieve the system and I hope you can assist me further. The minimum cost I'm looking at if I can't legally accomplish this is $109.00, purchasable through Microsoft.

Thanks so much for your time and consideration.

The Product Key is a 25-Character alpha/numeric key. There should be a sticker on your PC with it. If you purchased a Win 7 disk, the Key should be on it.

Did you find the above sticker? Is that the Product Key that you entered in the PC?

No, I entered a product key from a Win 7 upgrade disk I had received from a software store in Orange County, CA. The owner no longer has any media that may have come with his laptop. Am I completely out of luck? Better said, is he completely out of luck?

The media is not at issue here. You were asked if there is a COA sticker on the PC with the Win7 Product key. This is what is used for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 as illustrated in the tutorial:

coa-stickers.gif

This should be on the bottom of a laptop, under the battery, or back of a PC tower.

If you used an Upgrade version did it activate at the time? If you used a new or wiped HD which caused the installer to see no OS when booted then it requires installing without the key, then afterwards running Option 3 in Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version to activate Upgrade version on new or wiped HD.

Does the sticker that you got the Product Key from look like the one in the above post from Gregrocker? You should have entered a 25 character alpha/numeric key. Is that what you entered?

Sorry, yes, there is a COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop. No, in my haste I did not enter the product key inscribed on that sticker. That's my mistake.

The version of Win 7 Home Premium that I installed on the subject HP laptop was downloaded from the same authorized Digital River site per the tutorial provided in response to previous posts of mine, which addressed a similar procedure I had to perform on a different, ACER laptop. Again, my mistake.

Will the product key on the COA sticker on the bottom of this HP laptop resolve my issue?

Thank you.

Yes, as long as it's the same Win7 version as on sticker.

This is all answered in the tutorial.

Activation successful :)

Thanks again, Greg. Your tutorials are T.H.E. Best.
