The greatest risk W7 users face is from Microsoft. Otherwise, the article is full of bull biscuits, starting with the claim Win 7 is ten years old.

Microsoft will come out with any old crap these days to get people to switch to Windows 10.
They're not doing themselves any favours at all. All that's happening is more people are losing faith in them. Forcing the upgrade and getting pushy all the time will just have the opposite effect and push people away from future MS software.

MSE/ Windows Defender/ ie11/ office outlook and website sharing features and also opening every link sent to you in office outlook....
I say it's pretty accurate

As long as a user escapes M$ utilities such as those I'd say the risk is minimized quite a bit in win-7.

M$ has a product they are pushing I don't believe that's a new concept

Sorry, I still do not understand your point. MSE, WD etc are high risk products that make W7 high risk? However, they are not high risk in W10.

OK, I agree that MS has a problem with security. I would also go so far as to say that they have never really cared too much about how their products were coded from a security point of view. They have always been more reactive than proactive when it comes to vulnerabilities in their code.

When it comes to the article in question, the MS VP is trying to convince W7 users that W7 is high risk and if you stay on W7 you do so at your own peril. This is basically saying that W7 is a poorly coded and inadequate OS. If you compare it to W10 (and this is even to your point), that statement is totally ludicrous.

I have uploaded it again here. The author of the article is actually agreeing with you. Theer is no difference between W7 and W10 when it comes to product/utility vulnerabilities.

Hello, I know very little about all this, but I know that (up till now) Windows 7 is one of the safest if you use it with care and have good anti spy and malware.

But perhaps they are gonna mess with their security updates at Microsoft in the future? Not stay on the ball as it were

It is staggering how many people in win-7 use MSE or even think windows defender is enough for security

In those cases these people are more at risk than others that use Panda.../ mbam premium/... for protection
I'd even say windows firewall is not a good thing to use so use the third party antiviruses firewall would be best imho

I myself use MSE for windows 7. I also use Spybot S&D 1.6.2.0 which is still updated. I also use an older version Macrium image backup. I have to use that version differently now. A windows update messed up the old version. So, now I create images & restore images outside of the operating system. MSE, has saved me from a couple of viruses caused by malicious ads. I don't mind ads, it those malicious ads even on legit site.

Honestly, I don't see MSE that bad... I've tested it for a while in VM's, and I can tell is at least at Avast level, so it's quite secure.

I also use the malwarebytes free version. I do plan on trying some of the other addons that might detect even more stuff. I did use mcafee siteadvisor but I removed it, I think it was blocking more stuff then it should.

You know, if 10 let me choose when to install it, keep the Classic GUI, change system fonts to what I prefer without a Registry hack, didn't force updates, didn't report back to the MotherShip and to Uncle Sam, use keyloggers, display advertising, make sure all my old software will work, or didn't relentlessly violate my privacy, even I would consider using it.

People get what they pay for. To me, Microsoft trying to force 10 upon us for free is sufficient proof that it's a turd.
