Also have an Asus ha1002xp netbook with Win 7 Ultimate installed.
Of course they do, it ends up making their OS look bad when a brand new computer is running/performing slowly.

A little because of some of us wanting an OS doing any things we want straight at the beginning....that's why MS integrated their own backing-up system for example and many other features that could had been in crapwares provided by those manufacturers. But bloatwares will still be there mostly by demands.

There is this saying

"Don't bite the hand that feeds you"

If MS wants to get their product out to the masses as quickly and as affordable as possibly this is going to happen. A decade or two ago a computer cost thousands of dollars and that minimized buyers and subsequently $$ for the software manufacturers. This crapware seemingly lowers the cost of pre-built machines by off-setting production costs - even though some manufacturers use crappy hardware anyways.

This is the paradox MS is facing - get your software on machines that can be sold quickly, but face the consequences of having it share a home with crap. Most retailers carry about 4 to 5 major pc manufacturers, and many of them have lowered their values. I won't name any names but I have seen some "premier" brand names turn to crap quickly.

What is the percentage of people who purchase computers who don't know shit about what goes into them vs. those who do know? And how many of them care? The sales persons usually don't care what the average joe buys or actually influenced to push the machines with all the bloat/crap. Hell half of them couldn't walk their way out of a paper bag.

Having purchased eight laptops over the past few years I have been alarmed by the exponential increase in unwanted bloatware with each succeeding purchase..

There is no way I require, need or indeed should have to tolerate loads of unwanted pre installed crap. [ & all the time & effort that is required to get rid of it.]

With increasing complexity of programs / systems, the bloatware can actively interfere with day to day computing. It is no longer just an irritation - it now can cause real problems.

I have complained loud & long to both the manufacturer & Microsoft.
Microsoft listened, referred on & treated the matter seriously.
The manufacturer was unhelpful to say the least.

that was on a new Sony laptop. Notice where the scroll bar is. Sad thing is that that is only showing about 1/3 of the pre-installed crap.

I am going to go into another direction with this topic. If it wasn't for crapware then the computers being sold today would be in the same price range as Mac's.

Now just about anyone who takes the time to come to this site (Seven Forums) is smart enough to know that the crap on these computers can be removed with just a little work. Whats an hour of your time worth. Do you want to pay $1500.00 to $2000.00 for a machine or $650.00 and clean out the crapware. Personally cleaning out the crapware seems the right choice.

Or, buy the computer/laptop you want then purchase a copy of Windows 7 (whatever flavor your heart desires), and do a clean install.

Not only crapware keeps the prices down, so does all the stickers for different software and hardware manufactures. They pay to have those stickers put on the computers/laptops you buy.

So in the long run it is a good thing for all. Just take the time to remove the junk and stickers, or install a none crapware version of Windows. . .:D

Yes indeed that is what I pay here [$2000+ per Lappy] which includes all of the crapware.

I would be prepared to pay more to have a machine NOT "infected" with bloatware.

IMHO - Your prices are overly simplistic.

JMH, Sorry to hear of your high prices. The good thing here in the U.S.A. is you can go to stores like Best Buy, Fry's, etc. and get some good prices. Also going on line to online service like Newegg, Amazon, etc. you will be able to fine sales just about any day of the week. So where—unless you are going to do an iBuilt—then you really needn't pay over $1000.00 (US) for a middle of the road system (pretty much what the average Joe user buys).

Even though most of my time is spent on a iMac 27" I still have a Win 7 machine that I paid $659.00 (US) for just to have a sandbox to play in; besides I like Office 2010 for Windows over the Mac Office 2011 for the Mac (they still have got it right).

Again sorry about your prices there down under.

Cleaning out the crapware is a good choice, but the problem is that many people aren't aware of it or aren't tech-savvy enough to uninstall it. I had a friend with Vista and HP crapware on his computer and he didn't know that it was the cause of his problem until I fixed it for him.

Also, keep in mind that many of those things on the Sony are 3rd party drivers and utilities for the hardware that is installed on the computer. I just choose to use the Windows 7 drivers as long as they work...but it's possible the 3rd party ones might give slightly more performance.

It all depends on where you buy your system...... I can and have built very good Middle of the road PC's for $650 to the customer and made a profit. Oh and no crapware to be seen.

The problem is not a matter of lowering cost. Trust me it is not.
The problem is these 3rd party crapware developers are paying big dollars to have it included, and you have the OEM's that don't give a crap about what they are selling. Otherwise you would not have seen a single Vista PC with less than 1G of RAM sold.

I can not say if I had someone offer me a few hundred or more per machine to install their crap, that I might do it. It would be an off shoot of my main operation and be on a $199 special. Which you would not believe how many people there are who are happily begging for the $199 special till they get it home and can't do squat on it. Then bitch and moan that they got ripped off cause they can't play the latest Games on the Shelves. Especially when you explain that to them from the beginning.

Then you have retarded Factory Devs that are creating the Factory Image in such a way as most of the time the image don't install right the first time. So you have Garbage Factory Installs that includes Crapware, that in most cases may have to be reloaded and then cleaned up.

It is a combination of getting paid big dollars to install the crapware and the OEM's not giving a crap about what they are selling cause people are stupid enough to buy it anyway.

Vote with your dollars, not complaints and legislation.
The lack of sales can change any companies stripes faster than any complaints after making the purchase.

You will never get that kinda quote from the likes of any of the big OEM's,,,, even though they might be able to do it with Quality parts. Well,, to an extent. I mean, they do have a lot of backend overhead that must also be paid for as well as Regulations and Taxes. So, generally speaking, the nature of their business may not allow for it. That is all big business side of things.

However, a small mom and pop shop CAN, and DO sell quality Pre-Built at their shop Systems for those prices with no crapware. But you have to find a good shop, there are also a lot of small shops that just want a one off quick buck.
A $650 PC isn't going to run any marathons, but it will do a whole lot real fast. This is a middle of the road PC.

You can't. It's the nature of people. They are stupid.
Otherwise AOL never would have lasted as long as they did.
