Hello all! I searched and couldn't find the answer to the following question.

I have Office 2010 - two licenses at that, and want to remove the Office 2010 Suite from one computer and out it on another. Do I just go in and set it up on the new/replacement computer and at the point of activation when I try and activate the license it will tell me that I can't and that I need to call Microsoft...is this what is going to happen, or can I "deactivate" the license on the computer that is going to be dead soon??

Any help is appreciated!

First issue, if this is an "OEM" version, such as what is on new PC's, the it is only legally licensed for the PC it was delivered with and you would need a new copy of Office (to be legal). Microsoft (Usually) will not reactivate an OEM licensed version on a different PC.

If this is a "Retail" copy of Office you should be able to install it and call Microsoft and get it deactivated from the old PC and activated in the new PC.

Hi there
my experience with recent Office suites -- at least REATAIL versions seem that they will usually only complain about KEYS after you've tried to activate on MORE than 3 computers. Maybe I've been lucky -- Student / Teacher editions will certainly activate a few times on different machines while OFFICE 2007 ENTERPRISE will activate on as many computers as you are ever likely to own in a Lifetime.

The Enterprise edition of Office 2010 might have a different licensing procedure -- just don't know -- but IMO if you want to use office on a load of computers get the "Use at home" version of OFFICE 2007 ENTERPRISE if your workplace has that sort of deal on offer --it will only cost you around 15 USD and that's just for the media and postage.

Cheers

Retail box? Uninstall it, do the robocall, you'll be good to go.

I don't see a "deactivation" option on my end for 2010 and, though I haven't done this with 2010, I have done it numerous times with 2003 and 2007 as I upgraded computers.
