MiniDV Camcorder Capture Problemsq

Hi there,

I recently installed Windows 7 on my old laptop and everything appears to run fine. However, I've tried numerous times to capture video footage from my camcorder to the computer and it doesn't recognise that the device is connected.

I've tried removing and reconnecting the device and the default Microsoft video playback driver (msdv.sys) seems to install it fine, but it doesn't show up in any software I've tried - every piece keeps asking me to connect a device. I've tried "capture video" from auto play, but Windows Live Photo Gallery throws up an error message, saying that no compatible video devices are connected.

I'm using a Dell Latitude ATG D620 Laptop with Windows 7 Professional and the camera is a JVC GR-D820 MiniDV camcorder. I've looked for drivers for the camera itself, but there doesn't appear to be any in existence.

Any ideas?

Try Paint - go to File > From Scanner or Camera. Else, if the videos are on a card (e.g. SDHC), just copy it from the card.

Whs: I've just tried that and the option on paint is greyed out, even when the camera is connected. I get simaler problems with all my video editing software.

And how does the camera store the videos? Because it looks like you have a driver problem. If there were a card or disk that you can take out, that would make things easier.

To capture DV you'll need a IEEE1394 port (Firewire). If the notebook includes a firewire port check under devise manager that the drivers are properly installed.
Or you can find expresscard versions to add them.

Most video editing software will let you capture to them-it will be listed in the file menu.

Or google for windv which will let is a stand alone app to capture from DV cameras. Personally I have good luck with Enosoft DV Processor (free for personal use)
