Dell Dimension 1100/B110 desktop pc. Was XP but now with Home Premium 32-bit installed via Microsoft recommended "custom" installation. "windows.old" folder still on C drive. I have not performed the "Windows Easy Transfer" of files. EVERYTHING appears to be working exactly as advertised yet I have this yellow exclamation mark. Dell website does not support Windows 7 on this PC. Microsoft Windows Update utility reported that 32-bit Windows 7 was acceptable to be installed but not 64-bit. Installed Windows 7 because of the impending end of support by Microsoft. The Dell motherboard is 0WF887 according to Belarc. Printer is working normally. Wireless is OK. Wired is OK. Audio is OK. Video is OK -- I am NOT using the motherboard VGA video output - I am using the VGA output on a card that was added before I acquired the PC. Maybe the card came from Dell with this video card already installed but the Dell support website does not show that is true for my Service Tag number. The installed card also has an unused DVI output.

The PCI Simple Communications Controller is missing any driver. If I go to Device Manager, and right click on the device with the question mark, then choose Properties, then go to "Details" tab, & under Property, choose "Hardware IDs" there are four listings there:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_514D8086&REV_02
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&SUBSYS_514D8086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&CC_078000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_29A4&CC_0780

All available Windows Updates (important AND optional) have been accepted and successfully installed. Intel HECI_allOS_2.1.22.1033_PV.exe has been installed. Do I just disable the controller in Device Manager? Any help and\or recommendation will be greatly appreciated!!

You could try this driver here:
Driver Details | Dell US

It's been a while, but I recall that if your motherboard does not have a compatible chipset it just won't install.

Thanks much!! I'll give that a shot. As you state and I agree, (usually) if not applicable, the driver fails to install. I'll post the results of my attempt to install your suggested driver.

From what I can understand of the technical literature it is to allow remote access over a LAN for IT admin / repair purposes even when the system is powered down.

Yep, agreed.

You can wait awhile and see if something comes up on Windows Update.
Do you have your settings for WU to look for drivers but ask you if you want to install them?
Type "Device Installation Settings" at the Start menu search box.
