What is with people defending IW and this game?
I think it's crap. Not because there is nothing good about it because it does have some good things about it. But it is not a good game because the P2P system is trash and opens the doors to every cheat ever known to the FPS world all at once.
The game only feels smooth because everyone else is lagging as bad as you are and they throttle the game to meet the speed of the slowest players. Basically what you have is a solid 100ms ping game that gives the illusion of a 30ms ping game. If you adjust your config to display more bars on the bing graph and then adjust how many ms the bars represent to 20 the graph will scale from 0-200ms each bar representing 20ms so you can get an accurate ping reading using the bars. What you will see is going to make you sick really. One game the host was using a program to throttle his upload to 10kb/s so that everyone had severe lag while he himself had none. You would get shot before you could see him and the game still felt like it was running fine and dandy with no lag yeah right no lag lol. This game is nothing but lag.
IW did a great job by removing the numerical ping display in favor of a VERY inaccurate bar graph that was intentionally set to show you a pretty picture of what is not actually happening. They did a lot to make you think your not lagging when in fact this is the laggiest FPS game on the market.
Enough about lag though. The downsides to this game far outweigh any positives and that is the problem. That is what makes this a bad game.
I don't expect anyone without serious competitive experience in PC FPS games to understand why this game is a complete disaster but it is that much I can assure you of. I would not recommend you buy this for the PC.
Now if you want to talk about the 360 version then sure it is a great game probably one of the best this year. But the game was designed to run on the 360 and ported to all the other platforms I expect it to run the way it was intended on a 360 and if you wanted to buy the game for 360 I would say go for it. The match making and ping match what you would expect on a 360 where as they do not on the PC version.
just finished installing this game...
had some problems with Steam(ing POS) though, i just wouldn't update for hours, finally in the last few minutes the app has come online..
so, HAPPY DAYS.........first impressions.
EXCELLENT!!

Based on early indication of the online game experience and hacks floating around for MW2, one could say that IWNET does not measure up to this claim.Cheat / Hack Free Games: The biggest benefit of using IWnet by far is the fact that you don’t have to worry about joining a server full of aim-bots, wallhacks, or cheaters. Or relying on the server admin of the server to constantly be monitoring, banning, and policing it. Modern Warfare 2 on PC allows us to control the quality of the game much more than ever before as well as utilizing the VAC (Valve-Anti-Cheat) system to keep games clean of hackers and cheaters.
You can't ever be completely cheat free, unfortunately.

The other aspect of the IWNET is UPnP requirement for the broadband, or any other NAT router. The MW2 multi-player application talks to your broadband router and if UPnP enabled, the application dynamically maps port forwarding between the computer and the Internet. This allows the computer becoming the host for the game instead of just being a client. While I am pretty sure that the MW2 application behaves well and signals to the router that the dynamic port forwarding is no longer necessary and can be removed, other applications may not behave as well.
From the security perspective UPnP can be viewed as a risk and there has been some exploits that take advantage of UPnP. That might be the reason why this is a feature that comes disabled on most, if not all broadband routers by default.
While it is certainly true UPnP can be a secure protocol, as long as you know and control the applications on your computer, for most people it's probably not the case. Way to go IW making the gaming community less secure with the UPnP requirement...
I read a very long time ago that upnp was a bad thing . i downloaded and ran an app called universal plug and pray from the shields up website https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2
still to this day i have upnp disabled according to that app yet i can still run cod mw2 so i am a little confused , i did however open my NAT it was previously set to strict and gave me issues getting into games , again im told this is a security issue but at the end of the day if i get stung its my own fault , the chances of it happening though are pretty slim imo
If was going to bitch about a game and a company, it would be Valve's "Left 4 Dead 2". They basically sold us L4D a year ago, told us they'd be adding new maps, characters, weapons, and monsters for free, and then repackaged said freebies and sold them to us AGAIN at full price a year later and called it a sequel.
