Monitor Detection

I installed 7 with two monitors hooked up and turned on and it detected both of them just fine. But after the install when I boot to windows if both monitors aren't "on" when I boot it won't detect the second monitor when I turn it on. I have to boot with both monitors on for it to detect both of them.

I just want to see if anyone else has experienced this same problem?

Hi Ted,

Nope, it recognizes both of my monitors whether I turn them on before or after Windows 7 starts up. I have the same type of NVIDIA 9600GT graphics card as you, but mine is from BFG and is a OC model.

Are you using the default video drivers from Windows 7, or have you tried installing Vista drivers?

I have not done anything with any drivers installed when I installed Windows 7, they are all the ones "7" installed.

You might see if switching the monitor connections on the graphics card around makes any difference.

Hello....

I just tried one monitor; one completely un-hooked from the machine, to no avail. I got the text to "go away" but I did it on the same monitor that everything defaulted to and froze on the first time. So next time I'll try to do it on the other monitor. I thought to do as you suggested and re-name it back but I couldn't; everything freezes when I open it; except SR....:huh:

I have to go to work for a while; will try more later!

Is it the 47" LCD (TV?) or the 22"LCD that's causing the problem?

One of them may not have plug n play function.

Just an outside thought.

I have a brand new Radeon HD 4670 Graphics card with VGA standard and HDMI monitor connections. Two monitors connected, each to their corresponding connection. But WIN7 says it's a standard connection and there's only one monitor connected. But the windows shows up on both monitors (after rebooting).

I to must have both monitors connected and on for WIN7 to see them both at all. This bugs me. I've got a HD LCD monitor that isn't being used like it should.

WIN7 also says the graphics card isn't #D compatible with it's MADE for high end 3D graphics. Says there's no DirectX 10 or higher instad when there is! >_< *SIGH*

If one monitors default resolution exceeds the maximum of the graphics card output then I can well imagine they won't auto-negotiate.

I also remember that I got slightly different behaviour on two Dell 2005FPW's - and the sole reason for that came down to each monitor having different firmware (they were one revision apart).

Since it says I only have one monitor connected (but shows the same screen on both), I can't change the resolution on my other monitor (the HDMI one).

My current resolution is 1024x768
It clearly does not exceed anything
