Monitor Identity issue.....

Ok I am using my tv as a second monitor. Ever since instlaling Windows 7, it identifies my desktop monitor as 2, and the tv as 1. If I use the shortcut Win Key + p, to switch monitor setup (extend, duplicate etc...) to "Computer Only" It will make the tv the primary, not what I want. I can switch the connectors at the back of the card for this to function correctly, but then when the computer boots it treats the tv as primary (so boot up sequence shows up on tv), this is also not what I want.

So is there a way to manually set the identity? (so that my monitor is 1, and tv is 2). I tried unplugging the tv, and using a single display which gives the monitor an identity of 1. As soon as I plug the tv in it gives the tv an Identity of 1.

Thanks.

Yep drab the screen you want as #1 to the left and the other automatically becomes #2. Verify by Identify

Hope this helps

Sorry that's not the issue. I already have my Monitor (#2) on the left, and tv (#1) on right. I figured that part out. However, what I want is for the monitor to have an identity of 1, so that when I switch from multi to single monitor, the desktop shows up in the monitor, not the tv. I know I can go into properties and disable the tv, but I would like to be able to use the shortcut (win + p).

Unfortunately no I have not come up with a solution. For now I just live with no boot up screen on my monitor (boot up shows on tv) to be able to use the keyboard shortcuts.

connecting HDTV as second display overriding main LCD

Hello Please I am having the same issue

I am using a Toshiba 42" HDTV connected using a HDMI (the graphics card has a HDMI to DVI dongle) and my main computer LCD is connected via DVI.

so to recap if i ONLY have my Computer LCD connected its identified in the display control panel as '1' as soon as I connect my Toshiba HDTV that overrides and becomes '1' and my computer LCD then becomes '2'. which mean thats I would need to select 'Projector (windows key+p) to use my main computer LCD as the only display source!

in addition I have to select manually the sound settings to re-route the sound to the Toshiba HDTV ( i have a SPDIF cable connected inside the case from motherboard to graphics card) and then when i go back to my main computer display i have to then reset the sound settings!

This was NEVER and issue with Windows XP!!

So it MUST be something to do with Windows 7 and NVIDIA drivers!

I have installed the system from a fresh harddrive several times...I have used windows update fully I have even tried to not install everything to see if its a driver conflict).

I even tried using the beta version of Nvidia driver just in case it was a graphics card driver only issue....but still this doesnt solve the issue.

I haven not installed any unusual software that could potentiall cause conflicts its all certified drivers.

obviously I can still change the settings so that I can use my Toshiba HDTV and Computer LCD as all types of configurations (CLONE, SINGLE etc). but its all seems to be happening in reversed as detailed in the main users thread and the start of my post.

please can anyone help or have any other ideas that could help please :)
