Monitor shuts down before Windows 7 finishes loading

OK I've seen lots of problems but this one has me puzzled. I thought my old graphics card (EVGA GTX 285) was having some problems and it was time for an upgrade so I purchased a new EVGA GTX-660 ti. I'm still having the same problem so I don't think its the graphics card.

What happens, when windows starts before the log in screen comes up the monitor shuts down. However, I can start Windows in safe mode. I can go in and remove the drivers and restart Windows and everything comes up. Windows will install the new drivers and when I restart to set the drivers the problem returns exactly as before.

I have flashed the BIOS, updated the chip set drivers, tried loading the card drivers from several different sources and no luck.

Its a Gateway FX6801 PC, i7, 12 gigs of RAM, 750w power supply (I have watched the BIOS power and its steady as a rock)

I really can't afford to replace the whole machine one piece at a time to find out whats wrong.

Any fresh ideas or insight would be greatly appreciated!

hi,

try to change the pci-express slot which your GPU uses on your motherboard.
Also try to restore Windows on a system restore point which is before the day you started to experience this issue.

well theres a chance wen windows installs the drivers..it installs all the recent updated drivers..try downloading older version of the drivers..!

hi,

try to change the pci-express slot which your GPU uses on your motherboard.
Also try to restore Windows on a system restore point which is before the day you started to experience this issue.

There are two slots and I've tried them both. I have tried different cards, every card I try has the same results. I don't have another PC that these cards will fit into, they are pretty big cards, so I can't test them that way. Could it be a system board gone bad?

I've tried that too. There seems to be some sort of error with the restor points. I can only go back as far as the softwear I installed with the cards.

one thing...when you say the monitor shuts down..is it like just the monitor turns off..or like the whole pc shuts down? if its the only the monitor..well it might be the the monitors fault..! or you can plug in the monitor in another DVI port? i would suggest a clean install of the windows..just to be on the safe side..

and when you say the monitor shuts off..and the pc shuts off too...well check your other hardwares..and yes the board might have messed up!

Actually the PC continues to run when the monitor shuts down. Windows starts to load, before the log in screen comes up . . . the monitor goes dark a blue box come up and reads No Signal. Then its like the monitor goes to sleep. But if I remove the display driver and all the Nvidia files and restart my PC it will start and the monitor works just fine.

I think I'll try a clean install of windows 7 and see what happens.
