As a few of you, who know me, know that I'm running on an old PC. Now that I'm working a pretty cushy job, I'll be able to update and build myself a nice PC.

Monitors 3 - 5: 27"

Oh, I forgot to add, the CPU & GFX Cards will be watercooled, potentially even the RAM.

The massive amount of space is for my archival habit. If I have a product at version 1, I save from v1 to whatever the latest is. I've found that by doing this, I have flexibility to move things around, and work with different VMs.

I'm also going to build 2 servers, 1 for media, and another for my Co-Location.

My Project:

I told CKWD I would explain one of my projects, and I'll show the reasoning behind all this hard ware.

I do an extensive amount of downloading, and I plan on moving away from home soon. So, I've been working on a program, that requires FTP Access. It would basically be a PHP Script in conjunction with a C++ Coded program that would automatically download, archive, rename, and properly sequence my files. My family has VERY little experience with media centers, they know how to access my media, not download it, move it, and the works. The program would use Premium Access to a website, like Uploaded.net, which allows you to download without having to click a button, the link confirms it all. I have a lot of goals with it, have it include an SQL database with all the TV-Show, Movies or Animes information from IMDB, but that is a long way off.

There, now you guys know what I'm up too in my spare time.

SF is amazing!
That's gonna be one brutal PC! When does the build start?

This is just tremendous, amazing!
Really powerful and quite well thought through. You'll be needing at least a 1000W PSU for this, and I'd also suggest you an UPS to eliminate potential threats that could destroy the hardware such as power surges and thunderstorms.
You should also keep back ups of your records then, an online or Cloud storage perhaps, as I suppose you'll be fully using these WD Green 6 TB drives?

Good luck! :)

January, hopefully. I'll be buying 1 piece at time. I'm going to start with it this way;

Case -> Mobo -> CPU -> RAM -> GFX -> SSD -> Peripherals

I'll be using Cloud storage, as well. Redundancy is much needed for my projects. I plan on paying for a revision service, something that I can keep all my programs backed up too.

Any suggestions for one?

Edit:

Oh I forgot to add; I'll have a custom built desk for this setup too. It'll support 2 of these setups, so I can have massive power at my finger tips. Will I have two? Probably not. I'll probably have a stand-alone server in the secondary slot. I'm also a welder, and working on my wood working skills. :)

Yes, backing up is really important. One of the biggest concerns with hard drives over 3 TB (sometimes even 2 TB!) was that the bigger the capacity, the more information you'd lose if not backed up. But we already mentioned that in another thread, I think. :) Usually, the rule is to have back ups of your information on two other different places, like one being the Cloud storage in this case, and if possible, another location. That's the most common safest approach.

On revision services, I can't be a lot of help, you should see what's most highly reviewed in your city/country and research a little.

All the best! :)

DreadStarX I would look into blackblaze for your cloud storage. Unlimited storage and speed for $5 a month. Best deal I know around.
