Most of my programs stop working, unknown error

Hello. A few months ago in August, I made a clean reformat of my pc because it was a mess to the point where I couldn't use it just because everything stopped working whenever I tried to open any program. I thought it was an OS error and didn't think much about it

Now the error started coming back. What happens is whenever I try to open some specific programs (e.g.: Discord, Java Updater, Adobe Reader for PDFs, among others) they just stop working without even finishing opening the app

I've translated the error labels since my OS is in Spanish

I've already tried a CHKDSK at reboot, found nothing, and an SFC scan, also did nothing

It's not a RAM problem or something weird like that because, oddly enough, some programs that should consume much more hardware requirements work well. For instance, I'm using that very same PC's Chrome as browser and it works perfectly, even with videos, lots of tab, etc. It's those particular apps (that are more or less 70% of my PC and 90% of my daily usage of the PC) that don't work

Hello Puppet Strings,
Welcome to Seven Forums.

Thanks for translating the error labels. You have
APPCRASH, Faulting module name: MSHTML.dll, Exception code: 0xc0000005

My question to you, is your computer updated with the latest security update for Internet Explorer?

It might be that all your APPCRASHes are caused by the same WebBrowser control, in which case you need to Update the computer.

See this link from Microsoft Support, for explanation: A fault in Mshtml.dll may occur in an application that hosts the IE WebBrowser control | microsoft support .

My Windows is updated and I tried the Default File Type Associations restore for exes and dlls, but it didn't work. I've also tried reinstalling Windows Framework just in case, also didn't work.

By the way, this might be of help to find a solution: the module that crashes is not always MSHTML.dll, sometimes is the DWrite.dll, they seem to alternate between those at random

The program collects logs, and sends them to Microsoft, unless you select "Cancel" instead of "Finish" at the end.

You can read the logs yourself, by navigating to the specified folders. They are only .txt files. Read the txt files, and that will tell you what files the tool cannot repair. Once we know the names, then we can make decision as to what can be done next.

Hi

thats rather unusuall!!!

sounds like something else is getting in the way beforehand.

Can you uninstall your graphics drivers, both if you have them, using DDU
then, if dual graphics -Intel first then Nvidia.

DDU link

I don't think it has to do with any graphics driver shenanigan. As I say, a lot of things that consume much more resources than the programs that aren't working are in perfect state, and in fact the programs that don't work are mostly normal stuff. I don't think a graphics problem would not let me open the Java Updater while it allows me to open the browser or some games (even java based games).

So, should I upload all those logs file?

Hi

c5 is an access violation, and WOULD occur when a program is CALLED, its NOTdependent on how much resource is used

Ok, but I already had a problem once trying to update my own drivers manually once and I'd prefer not to do it again and have to take my PC to the technician again

can you run and post the tool report from here

Hi Tourchwood,

keep bumping into you on this thread!

Hi

c5 is an access violation, and WOULD occur when a program is CALLED, its NOTdependent on how much resource is used

Roy

That would indicate a problem with the Application itself. But the OP has stated that the APPCRASH happens with more than one .dll as source.

It's not a dual graphics comp as far as I know. I just use Nvidia, not intel.
I ran the tool report and it generated all these files. Which one would you like me to upload?

Two .dlls to be exact: DWrite.dll and mshtml.dll

I'll run the Framework repair again and send the errors
