Motherboard might be defective: audio through one speaker?

Hi all, I have a slight problem with my audio and I decided to come here before racing to get an RMA from Newegg. Anyways, the rear audio jack on my new build only feeds sound through the right speaker and my subwoofer, but the left speaker is completely silent. I've already tried a set of headphones and another, older speaker system of mine, all the same results: sound through the right speaker and silence on the left speaker. This actually started happening when I used Ubuntu while waiting for my Windows 7 to arrive. I thought Ubuntu was the problem and used the front panel's headphone jack until I got Windows, but even then, I noticed it was still not working correctly. While my rear audio jack doesn't work, plugging any speaker system into my front panel's headphone jack results in sound going to both speakers like nothing was wrong and working perfectly.

So, after this long explanation, I want to know what you all think. Do you believe my motherboard is defective?

Not so much a defective motherboard as a defective plug, but in this case apparently the two are one in the same.
The audio device is apparently functioning properly or the front out wouldn't work right either.
The problem from your description would seem to be the plug itself.

If it was purchased through newegg, you should have two options, Return to newegg or RMA to manufacturer.

I was hesitant to mention this, but I don't suppose it can really hurt at this point.
I suffered a similar problem once and was actually able to fix it by using a tiny eye glass screw driver to pop the little contact inside the plug back out (it had become stuck in the retracted position somehow)
Not sure if this applies to you, but I figured I would go ahead and mention it.

I've tried looking in the plug, didn't seem like anything was out of place. So I may as well do that RMA, thank you anyways for helping me.
