Have you tried a different USB port? If so then try another USB mouse!

Also may want to boot and go into hardware as fast as you can and uninstall the mouse driver. Use keyboard to either scan for hardware changes and see if it pulls a good driver or use keyboard to reboot.

Magically all the restore dates disappeared, and I know they existed.

I tried both USB ports.

The original mouse is on the laptop keyboard itself. I just tried the extra wireless mouse, because usually it will work.

I will try uninstalling the mouse driver, but I figured with putting Windows back on it would figure it out by itself - either the mouse from the keyboard or the one I tried to plug in. So far I have only been able to use keyboard commands :(.

I did not try a wired mouse yet. I will look into it.

As its a laptop i thinking the onboard mouse as died but a wired mouse should take over when its plugged in

also would it be a little stick mouse inline with the keys ?

Freezing Mouse Pointer Problem

I was having this same problem. All of a sudden the pointer of my new USB mouse froze in the centre of the screen. It would not move, though i could click both the buttons and scroll too. After a lot of surfing the internet, and a lot of brainstorming i came up with this idea. I don't know if it will work for PS2 mouse. Anyways, here are the two things i did:

1. Go to Start menu. Type services.msc. Find Human Interface Device Access. If it is set to stopped, start the service. Double click it, and from the dialogue box select Startup Type Automatic. Press OK.

2. Restart the computer, and enter the BIOS Setup Menu. Go to Integrated Peripherals. Select USB Mouse and set it to Enabled.

These steps has completely solved my freezing pointer problem. Hope it helps the others too! :)

NOTE: If its the USB keyboard that is causing the problem, then you can check its status here in the BIOS setup, just in case it is disabled here.
