Windows PC p6710f running Windows 7.

Alcatel Raven A57BL android phone.
Some kind of free recording App installed, orange interface, named Sound Recorder. may have come preinstalled.

created an audio only recording, now have no idea where it is stored on the phone.
Cant' get PC to find it.

Directions telling me to go to this "USB for file transfer" thing dont' work.

Almost all the time, directions for computer or phone name things I don't have, or show pictures that don't match what I see.

. Want to connect phone via USB cable to move recording to the PC, then upload to Youtube.

I prefer to avoid trialware, spyware, adware, malware, etc.

Are you sure it's Sound Recorder? The only app that I could find under that name is for Windows 10. I found the Smart Recorder for Android.

By the way, I simply connected my LG phone to my desktop and Windows automatically installed the software for it and then Windows Explorer opened up to show me the file system on the phone.

"...created an audio-only recording, now have no idea where it is stored on the phone..."
it's possible it is stored somewhere on what I call the phone's motherboard; that recording has to copied or moved onto your microSD card. Then, Windows should be able, via USB to USB, to read that microSD card and go from there. That is how it works on our Samsung T259 and the LG450 flip-phones, so I am only guessing here.

Allegedly:
6.3 Connecting to a computerWith a USB cable, you can transfer media files and other files between your microSD card/internal storage and the computer.

To connect:
• Use a cable to connect the phone to a USB port on your computer.
You will receive a notification that the USB is connected.
• Touch the notice to change connect mode, such as Charge this device, Tranfer files(MTP), Transfer photos(PTP), Drivers CD-ROM.
Before using MTP, make sure that the driver (Windows Media Player 11 or higher version) has been installed.

Thank you. It took a lot of confusing work, but I have been able to move the audio file from the phone to the PC.

I now discover that YouTube will not allow audio-only uploads, I have to somehow attach an image.
I'd like to do this on Windows 7 without buying something or getting adware, trialware, malware, spyware.
Windows Movie Maker says:

the program cant' start because
Wldcli.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.

but MS has discontinued support.

I have Windows Media Player on the win7 machine, but cannot get it to put an image on the sound file no matter what I try.

First, check out the App called File Manager. There you can see all the files on your phone and in the recent folder your recent files. This can help aid in where a file is located at when you plug your phone into the computer.

Yes, YouTube is only meant for videos. You can create a video with just a black background or with some image/s and add the source audio to the video then upload the video to YouTube. If you just want to share an audio clip you can either use clyp.it or Soundcloud.

Yeah, many phones, at least with Android that I know of you have to change the USB charging mode to file transfer mode when you plug in a USB cable to the PC.

Yes. Now just need to know how to turn it into something I can upload to YouTube.

Tried to do this in Windows Media Player, but I can't get that to work, an image won't attach
and I can't seem to turn this one track into an "album".

I'd prefer not to use trialware, spyware, adware, malware.
I'd prefer not to have to buy something, because I will rarely do this.

Thank you for your input.

I find cnet to be a very safe site for downloading software. However, the link I provided doesn't have the download for Windows Live Movie Maker. I think it is part of Windows Live Essentials which you can get here-

Windows Live Essentials 2012 - Free download and software reviews - CNET Download.com

I downloaded it to my Vista system and Norton didn't have a problem with it. I can't run it because one needs Win 7. I'll try it on Win 7 later.

I installed the above in Win 7 and skipped it's persistent desire to open an account for Live Messenger.

I then opened Movie Maker from All Programs. I messed with it a little and I think it does what you want, assuming your audio is music. You can only save a project as wlmp but you can publish it directly YouTube, as well as other sites. I didn't try it.
