Solved Moving User file to different hdd?

I have 23gb on My Docs and right clicked and sent it to another hdd (as per recommendation) but it screwed up a lot of my comp.
I sent it back and want to know what I can safely move of my User file?

Is the result any different than what I did?

After I did that, a number of programs did not work.
Maybe I have to pick and choose what to move from within My Docs?

Hello Paul,

Your Documents folder could contain subfolders that are user by other programs. If moved to a different location, it could cause problems with those programs.

To just save space, it would be better to do what's in the yellow Tip box in the tutorial posted above to use a New Folder saved where you like, and included it on a library (ex: Documents library).

If you move anything that a program uses into the new folder, then be sure to change the settings in the program to use the new location as well.

In the future, when downloading a new program, will it automatically be backed up in Library or do I just follow the "include in library" step?

Great news.

Anything you save into a library will depend on what you set as that library's save folder to where it will actually be saved at by default.

Does that mean if I download a new program, I install it in my default folder (separate hdd) and it will be automatically included in Library?

No worries mate.

You would install the program as usual on your C: drive, or another drive if given the option during the program's installation.

I was just referring to saving files in a library instead that you could set the library to have a default save folder location.

This way, if say program has an option to let you select where to save files to by default from the program, you could select a library to save to.
