I recently purchased a Thor 64GB MP3 player and, since the included instructions are rather minimal and I cannot find online help, am hoping someone here might be able to help.

I first copied about five MP3 files to the player's drive and the player could play some of them, but gave the Format Error! message for others. In looking at them using Windows Explorer, those that wouldn't play did not show the Length values; those that did play OK, did show the Length values. They all show the Size values.

I copied these files from my folder on my PC and all of the files in that folder show the Length values.

I just reformatted the player's drive and copied all of the MP3 files (304) to it and now 148 of them do not show the Length.

Any ideas how this can happen, and how to correct?

Thanks for any info.

Is the player formatted as fat32? That player is pretty inexpensive and perhaps you are not really getting 64GB in it. A lot of people are having your issue with it on amazon.

Malcolm,

Thanks for your reply.

The player is formatted as ex-fat. I just found it very strange that the information shown in WE would vary from my hard drive to the MP3 player's drive, when the files on the player were copied directly from the hard drive.

What's even more amazing (if possible) is that after seeing the files with no Length values, I then recopied them and they then showed the Length values.

I actually purchased this on eBay, but some of the included sheets did reference Amazon. You're right, it is inexpensive; I was hoping it would work OK to serve my needs.

If I do decide to return it, can you recommend a good, low priced player that won't present these issues?

I had looked at the various Ipods but there seems to be so many different ones, I thought this Thor player might work.

Is the drive that it shows you as exfat just an empty drive for music files or does it also have the folder with the devices OS on it?

When I connect the player to my PC, it only shows one drive, the one where I've put my MP3 files. There were a few music and picture files there when I first got it, but no OS type files.

I reformatted the player as FAT32, then copied the 304 files again. This time 163 of them do not show the Length value in Windows Explorer, and they do not open in Audacity; so, for some reason, the files are not being copied correctly.

I need to get a better player. Any suggestions for a good, low-priced player?

If you can deal with a small screen and use a micro sdcard (also cheap in price) I would get a sansa clip + it served me forever and still is known to have a very good DAC inside (Dang they are discontinued and replaced by a horrible device) What is your budget?

My budget is to spend as little as possible to get the features I want.

I'm not looking for a lot of features, but I would like to have the screen stay showing while the files are playing. My new player doesn't have this option, or, if it does, I haven't been able to find it.

Just a basic, but good, MP3 player with the standard connections.

I've seen some AGPtek players on eBay. Any opinion on them?
