Hi, and thanks in advance...

Much of this is a repeat to other threads, until the graphic driver problem at the end...

(I also have an Ubuntu partition.)

I'd left my mp3 player plugged in overnight + an Asus Xonar DAC in a usb hub, when Windows wanted to do an update and conflict over drivers ensued. Strange, because I've selected for notification before updating. Also, have not been successful installing any new updates since the end of May. Was seemingly a common problem, I checked into it, too busy/lazy to pursue and succeed. This part is confusing...?

Woke up to blasting fans and unplugged everything peripheral. First, tried setting back to restore points prior to that night - twice. Could restart in Safe Mode and with networking. Then, could restart normally - but, shutdowns after 20 minutes or so.

Got crash logs, saw driver conflicts (not found) - saved.

Came here, read threads, did restart at Last Known Good Configuration. Restart - Nvidia Geforce driver not found. Went to Asus site, downloaded and installed driver (not lastest version, but last approved version and not much later than one that was installed).

It then went into a system cycled start/restart/etc. attempting to find driver, fix itself - forced to do shutdown to stop it.

Restarted this morning in Safe Mode, followed your instructions for posting. It's been running in safe mode for about 20 minutes now.

Hello welcome to SF :) .

Critical files are missing please run the SFDT again and let it run it's course.
Most dumps are corrupted, but the one that did survive shows
an extremely old graphics driver.

I've attached the complete diagnostic this time. I also found a newer driver at Asus. I'll wait to install, until I hear back.

Thanks again,
Lauren

Hey,

Did 3 driver instructions as you said. Coudn't find 3D (2) drivers you mentioned though.Left chipset alone.

Looks much better, but now full vertical sets of blue lines - barcode - ish (red on black). Screen grab I took doesn't capture the lines...?

Will update Service Pack when we're finished.

Cheers and thanks,
Lauren

Hardware problem.
Could be either a faulty display output / GPU chip and/or monitor.
Do get those lines during the boot process say while in the BIOS?
Take a picture of the monitor and upload please.

Hi,

Screen captures are not working - tried several times with snip tool = no lines captured. They jiggle, and no, there were none while booting - safe mode or normal. Have had no problems with video/display at all until I did the last known good config...

Attached speccy grab.

Thx...

Yeah, that's why I asked for a photograph :) .
If those temperatures are at idle (not doing anything special of an intensive nature running) then we have a problem
look at the inside of the case and look for dust accumulation that is contributing to the high temperatures.
It looks like it's time to clean the box :) .

Yo,
The temps are an issue with this computer in general... Keep it nice and clean always, up high for air flow, fans blowing on it, etc. Believe me, I've had it open so many times... If you just search the model, you'll see they just did a crap job on this one - and I hate it. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought it, but it's still served me well.

I have no idea why the screen grabs don't show the lines...? I went back to a forum for owners of the G50 models, where I used an upgrade to Windows 7 guide, since I remembered a specific set of drivers needed. Maybe the newest driver is not compatible?

Thanks so much for your time and effort,
Lauren

Yoyo,

Found this out: if screenshot doesn't capture or show the lines, then the card or monitor/screen itself is bad. Probably got baked.

And, the newest drivers for old nvidia cards can cause a lot of problems...

Thanks again! Off to look for a new computer,
Lauren

I know that why I asked for a photograph rather than a screenshot :).

Seeing that you don't encounter the lines while at the BIOS I'd say it's the GPU.
Good luck with the new PC!, :)
