MS Photo Editor

Hmmm, that's really weird, I'll run the file through some different anti virus scans tonight n see what it comes up with. I've never had an issue with it in the past. Perhaps it picked up something from the site I uploaded it to. Any suggestions for a different hosting site?

I scanned the files on VirusTotal.com and this is what I got for results:
PE 64bit, PE32bit,

I see 1 finding out of 51 on both so I'ma go ahead and say it's coming up as a false positive. I've had PE 64bit installed on my comp and ran McAfee, Norton, Malware Antimalware bytes, and MS Security Essentials and all came back clean. I try to keep my computer pretty clean, toolbar/malware/virus free and I can say I haven't had any issues with these files on my computer.

I tried the download link I posted and it's asking me to download an EXE file which is NOT what I uploaded so ima say I just made a really bad choice in uploaders.. I'll go ahead and post the files on my server for a few days just so you can download it directly from me. Lemme know when you get it.

+Rep. me if I helped please and thank you :)

Hi, D -

It downloaded fine, I read the "readme" file, followed the instructions, and HOORAY! Microsoft Photo Editor is working great again on my 64-bit Windows 7 laptop! Didn't have to mess with the Registry patch - I've been into computers since my first IBM PC in 1981, and learned a long time ago to leave the Registry alone.

Thanks again for your help - until I stumbled on this Forum (from a Google search on "Windows 7 Photo Editor"), I was getting ready to give up and go to Irfanview or some other viewer; now I don't have to! :)

Not clear to me how to install the recommended registry item.

Just thought I'd update my issue - I replaced my previous W7 notebook with a new HP Envy 17" notebook with Windows 8.1 64-bit about a month ago, and tried an original installation of Photo Editor from the Office 97 CD; the installation went fine, and Photo Editor works exactly as it should under Windows 8.1. I'm keeping the "fix" in case Photo Editor and W8.1 forget how to play nice together in the future, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the MPE/W8.1 combination works. :)

Hi DStealth,

I've been trying to find PE3.zip file you uploaded all over the internet, but no joy. Could you post a link to your new upload. Would really appreciate it.

Thanks again,

Here you are dude, PE3.zip, use: DStealth's 7Forums Page

Link contains both 32bit & 64bit versions as well as the large file patched exe & 64bit patch

I downloaded the Photo Editor for Win 7 64 bit successfully from this link. It took a few seconds and seemed to download fine. Then went to the file where it landed and clicked to run it. It gave me the security warning and asked it I wanted to run anyway. I clicked Yes. There was a flicker but apparently nothing happened because I can't find it in my list of programs. EDIT: NEVER MIND. I FOUND IT UNDER MICROSOFT TOOLS. THANKS! PHOTO ED IS BACK AFTER TWO YEARS.

Wow,

You know, it took me two years as well to get it working! Usually I am very good at solving my pc problems, but after trying numerous things, it didn't work surprisingly. I ended up turning to other programs temporarily, but it was not to my liking.

I am glad I joined this forum and found the simplest answer. I did try it the hard way at first and it didn't work, so there you go....two years later and BLESS MS PHOTO EDITOR AND DSSTEALTH FOR POSTING IT!!!!!

I am as happy as a clam! I am also now seeking a photo editor where you can take one character and add it to another picture...example: an actor from one movie and add another actress to make it look flawles....anyone have any suggestions?

Lilly, But are clams really that happy? MS Photo Editor is still the best and most intuitive after all these years. My 64 bit on the desktop works fine. The 32 bit on the laptop works ok but gets some kind of graphic interference on the picture (stripes and misplaced pixels) when you zoom down too deep. You can still edit and they go away when you zoom back out. Wonder what this might be. Bill

I am not sure if clams are truly happy....good point by the way, :geek:, however when it comes to MS photo editor, I agree that it's great! As for your problem, is there enough memory on your pc or the type of photo you are trying to edit, it all depends. I know it's not a great answer, just a suggestion.

I would try to find a topic on pixels and maybe you might find your answer. I am certainly not a professional pc user, but I do alot of research on forums. I love Ms photo editor, but I am also looking for another photo editor where I can combine two pics together where it looks flawless. Still researching on this.

I hope you find the answer you seek!

For DStealth, re: Microsoft Photo Editor

Here's the link: DStealth's 7Forums Page

I had some how misplaced the index file which was why the page didn't load for you previously. It's there now, should work :)

I know I'm extremely late to this party, but I've been so sad since I finally had to leave my beloved XP behind and lose Microsoft Photo Editor. I downloaded it to a laptop which has Win7 64 bits and I think I ran/installed it ok, but when I right click on a photo (.jpg) and go for the "open with" and select Microsoft Photo Editor, it actually opens with Microsoft Photo Viewer. I even tried restarting the computer and tried with several photos. BUT if I open Microsoft Photo Editor first, and ask it to open a photo, it will open it and let me edit it. I can't figure out how to make it my default "opener" (if I double-click on a photo) and I can't figure out why it shows up on the list of options (open with) but when selected, my photo opens with what I didn't select. Do you think you could help me with some advice? p.s. I'm not smart. Thank you!

I also am late to this post but I'll blame it on testing with Win10TP. I installed Photo Editor from my Office 2000 Premium disc on Win7 Home Premium to see if it worked, it did. Then I installed it on Win10TP, it worked but there were a couple of file issues before the program opened [may have deselected too many things in the Tools]. It still has the 3MB size limit. Both Win7 and Win10TP are Notebooks running the 64-bit OS. I did the Customize install and deselected everything but Photo Editor in the Office Tools section, ended up with a 44MB install size. [TIP: Office 2000 is the last not to need activation but does require the Product Key.]

DStealth, just wanted to say thanks (again) - couldn't get Photo Editor to work on my wife's W7-64 HP desktop, and the download from your site fixed it instantly! :)

I too want my photoEd back...

Trying to install from DStealth's 7Forums Page, but I got an error message "Service 'Microsoft Software Shadow Copy provider' (swprv) failed to start. Verify you have sufficient privileges to start system services."... Figured how to start the service, followed by Volume Shadow Copy (VSS) to get the install going, but... nothing seems to happen after... rebooted, still nothing...

Help please !
Thx, DB
