MSE and other security software

What other software (ie. malware, spyware, anti-virus, firewall etc.) should I have installed and running after MSE is installed on my computer? Is MSE up to the task of taking over some of this software that I can potentially uninstall now? Lastly, what security software in your opinion should I have?

I suggest to install Mawarebytes. It works great with MSE.

SAS is pretty good too - as a scanner. MSE is so, so. I prefer Norton - NIS2011. I also recommend WinPatrol as additional protection.

I've heard that Norton and Symantec have become so bloated and resource hogs that it is not advised anymore. Not to knock you whs, its just what I've been seeing. Thanks for all the quick responses....I will get MW and give it a go since that seems to be the general consensus.

I run MSE and occassionally scan with malwarebytes. About once a month I update SpywareBlaster and run that.

Haven't done a SP-1 install as it crashed my system the first time. I do use and advise everyone to use Acronis and B/U to external drive as well as another partition...you never know...

Keep Windows Firewall enabled or install a 3rd party one.

Periodically run an on-demand scan with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Hitman Pro.

Configure Enhanced Mitigation Experience Toolkit v2.0 to run your web browsers, office suites, media players, PDF readers, flash players and Java under it.
I've heard that Norton and Symantec have become so bloated and resource hogs that it is not advised anymore.
That was the consensus years ago, not now.

MSE is a much bigger resource hog than NS2011. I run NIS2011 on 3 systems and MSE on 3 of my wife's systems (because she has a much less demanding environment). I think you should not listen to hearsay from people that have no idea what they are talking about.

We caught 2 nasties with MSE, never any with Norton which I use since 2007. Fortunately we do frequent imaging - which by the way is your best protection.

Also, SAS finds things that MWB does not find. Use both.

Unless you are really paranoid, many of those tools are not needed. Sensible behavior and frequent imaging is your best protection. Most of those other super safe tools just hold you up.
