MSE updates flagged in Win 7 updates but not XP Mode updates

I find it odd that when I do a Windows Update in Windows 7, the Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) updates are also found. But if I do a Windows Update in XP Mode, the MSE updates are not found. I don't suppose this is controllable? I'd like the Windows Update to find MSE updates.

In XP you have to go into the "Add/Remove" programs and check off the "Show updates" box at the top to reveal the MS updates installed.

You will need to ensure that Microsoft Update is installed in XP Mode. Then I believe (this is from memory), it's probably put in High Priority updates.

I think they are listed but only by number not specifying what each is for. With the MS SE on the XP Mode I am looking at the dates on each one seen under "Windows XP - Software Updates" way at the bottom with none listed for the SE but two for WMP and a pair of hot fixes.

There's quite a few more if you scroll down further then shown in the image here. In the way MS updates are displayed is slightly different.

Actually, I didn't want to show the updates that have been installed.

I want for new MSE Updates to be looked for when I check for Windows Updates. That's what happens in Windows 7. Would you know if there is a way to do this?

I do have MSE installed in XP mode. The new MSE updates don't show up when I check for Windows updates in XP mode. I'm hoping that there is a way to have them show up when checking for Windows updates, as they do in Windows 7.

When clicking on the Windows update item on the Start and then selecting the custom not express option or when using the check now button in the CP there you simply watch the list of MS items already checked off if any new ones are available and haven't been installed already.

The custom option also allows you to look over any hardware and ... software updates which may be for MS SE! Often some optional MS updates for things like Office and other MS addons will have them listed there rather then in the main list of security fixes.

i run XP in VBox and it finds mse updates without me doing any more than running windows updates.

Most of what you see in the last screen there are updates for the MS SE. While in the XP Mode I tossed the latest version of that on there. The installler downloaded those automatically with the check for updates step being seen at the end of the install.

The others were the few available when checking for the regular updates separately. Notice the installation date is the same on all of them from not having been in the XP Mode for a period of time.

A clean install of XP on an old build where that will be run saw over 100 after SP3 was installed.
(nothing like spending a full night going through an old case being given away. )

Thanks. That worked. I like the Windows 7 Update, where MSE updates are considered part of the Express Updates. Ah well, there are certainly worst things in life. Thanks!
