Solved MSE won't install

Let's see what's actually going on here.

I'd like you to scan your machine with ESET OnlineScan

1. Hold down Control and click on the following link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
   ESET OnlineScan
2. Click the
   
   button.
3. For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
   1. Click on
      
      to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
   2. Double click on the
      
      icon on your desktop.
4. Check
   
5. Click the
   
   button.
6. Accept any security warnings from your browser.
7. Check
   
8. Push the Start button.
9. ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer. Please be patient as this can take some time.
10. When the scan completes, push

    , and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Include the contents of this report in your next reply.

Looks like MSE was being blocked from installing.

Download ATF Cleaner Welcome to the Frontpage - www.atribune.org
Click "Main" > check 'select all' (except prefetch) this first time using it, then click "Empty Selected". Do the same for FireFox or Opera if you use either of those browsers.
Next go to Control Panel > Internet Options.
On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files".
Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK.

Are you able to install MSE now?

• Double click on RSIT.exe to run RSIT.
• Click Continue at the disclaimer screen.

When i turned on windows defender i got updates for that..since then i don't think i got any other updates. Only the MRT that keeps on popping up

I would check if Windows Installer Service is running or not.

Click Start, click in the Start Search box, type services.msc, and then press ENTER.
Right-click Windows Installer, and then click Start. If Start is unavailable and the Stop and Restart options are available, the service is already started.
Exit Services when done.

Open Command Prompt in Elevated Mode (right click on command prompt and click "Run as administrator")
Type MSIEXEC /REGSERVER and then press ENTER.

   Note

There will be no indication that this command has succeeded or failed.

Try install Microsoft Security Essentials again in administrator (right click on Microsoft security essentials install file and click "run as administrator)

Hi RaviR,
Having exactly the same problem on Windows XP Home Edition SP3. Originally had AVG, then used MSE for the past six month and when the upgrade came up in the last couple of days - tried to upgrade. But get the same "Cannot complete ...." error you get. Hope you have luck and post the answer!

Actually I'll post the full error so it's easier for others to find this thread:

Cannot complete the Security Essentials installation.
An error has prevented the Security Essentials setup wizard from completing successfully. Please restart your computer and try again.
Get help on this issue.
Error code:0x80070005

Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt.
Please post the contents of that document.

Doubleclick CKScanner.exe and click Search For Files.
After a very short time, when the cursor hourglass disappears, click Save List To File.
A message box will verify that the file is saved.
Double-click the CKFiles.txt icon on your desktop and copy/paste the contents in your next reply.
