Multiple Monitors VGA and HDMI Cycling on and off

I have been running an extended desktop with the primary connected HDMI and the second connected VGA. This had been working fine. Now the second (VGA) has switched to the primary and the second cycles on and off. It appears in the Display settings and then goes away and repeats. Cables are good. Any Ideas?

Sounds like the primary monitor electronics might be shot, try connecting JUST that monitor alone and if it continues to cycle.... Try all the possible connections it offers that you can, if one works, stick with it.

If you want certainty that it's broken, hook it up to another system if it's still failing on yours.

Another thing to try is to power down the PC, turn off the HDMI display and unplug the power cord from the display. Leave it unplugged for a minute or press the power button and hold for about 10 seconds. Plug it back in then power on the display and PC and see if the problem continues. This forces the display into a "reboot".

I have an ASUS display that I have to do that to about once or twice a year. Sometimes it will forget what it's plugged in to and power cycle fixes it. It's not enough to just turn it off--It must be unplugged.
