Hi all,
I'm having a number of issues with my PC which I suspect maybe a problem with the motherboard but would appreciate a 2nd opinion or help before I buy a new one.
Firstly, when I plug in a USB device (it seems to be happening with all devices, not a specific one) I'm getting a 'device not recognised' error. If I unplug and re-insert the device it will, eventually, work but it could take anything from 3 & 10+ attempts.
When the device is finally recognised, I'm then greeted with a pop-up advising me that the device will work faster if I plug it in a USB2 port - I have 8 USB ports on my PC, 6 of them are USB2 and 2 are USB3.
The second problem is with my DVD drives. CDs will read first time, every time. DVDs with mixed data (eg. MP3s, JPGs) will sometimes read but, as with my USB devices, I keep having to re-insert the DVD until they're recognised. DVD movies won't play at all no matter how many times I try.
I have 4 DVDrw drives from an old, non-functioning PC, which I have swapped with the currently installed ones and I'm having the same problem with all of them. I realise that DVD heads do wear out over time but I don't accept that 4 drives that worked perfectly the last time they were used would all fail at the same time.
The third problem is with the SATA ports. There are 6 on the motherboard but only 2 of the function (ports 5 & 6). If I connect a SATA device to ports 1-4, when I restart my PC it gets locked into a BIOS loop.
I have checked, double checked and triple checked that all the drivers are up to date - they are - and have even resorted to a clean install of Windows but all these problems persist.
As mentioned above, I suspect it may be a fault with the motherboard but I would appreciate some help in case there's something I've overlooked.
Thank you.
