Hi there, I'm not sure if this is the proper place for this thread but I need help.

I've been having problems trying to install windows updates for awhile now and I tried all the fixes that were recommended but none of them worked. A friend recommended that I try a repair install to get my windows up to date so I tried this tutorial to do a repair install that was posted here. I followed the instructions and made a bootable usb. It was going smoothly but upon the second restart my computer monitor tells me that there's no signal being received. After 30 minutes the screen goes completely black and stays like that for hours upon hours. I thought it was the install so I left it alone for the whole day and upon my return nothing had changed, the screen was still black and my computer non responsive. I'm just trying to get my OS up to date so I get some of my programs and drivers working again. I can't afford to do a clean install of windows, I can't back up any of my files. Also yes my windows is genuine.

Hello PuniceusRose and welcome to Seven Forums.

Was there any particular reason why you opted to use a bootable USB instead of a DVD? eg: netbook, no CD/DVD drive? It just seems that a bootable USB device is less reliable than a DVD. If you need a DVD you can download your specific version in ISO form and then burn it to DVD. You'd use the 25-digit Product Key located on your computer to reactivate.
