Solved Multiple Update Issues

I decided to take advantage of the free upgrade to Win 10 from Microsoft and uncovered a host of problems, many of which I have fixed with the help of this forum. IE was crashing, Troubleshooter wasn't working, Many Important Updates had been failing since February 2015 but not being too tech savvy I had been putting off doing anything about them.

I have spent 4 or 5 days now and have managed to get IE and Troubleshooter working and have installed all but 2 Important Updates and most of the Optional Updates. Many I did manually and with Hotfixes, but most installed automatically, perhaps dependent on updates that hadn't installed? Troublesome Important Updates are KB3033929 and KB3109094 and won't install from the Microsoft downloads using the standalone installer. No error code, but the installer says it can't install them. Automatic Updates are now working well, thanks to all the great folks on this forum!

I have received errors 8007490 & 80073712, which seem to be fairly common in the forum threads.

As per instructions I have run all suggested diagnostics and the CheckSur.log result shows:

Summary:
Seconds executed: 3614
Found 281 errors
CSI Manifest Missing Total count: 153
CSI Payload File Missing Total count: 95
CBS MUM Missing Total count: 33

As suggested elsewhere, I have tried to repair my Windows 7 Pro 32 bit installation using my disk and then running Upgrade, but I get the message that I can't upgrade Windows 7 to Windows 7!

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I would still like to upgrade to Win10.

CBS folder is available on Google Drive, 48.4 MB:

Thank you!

Hi Freddie
i suspect your discs are corrupt

Roy

Hi, thanks for the reply! The installation disk is the original Dell program disk. The computer came with Windows XP installed and with disks for both WIN XP and WIN 7. I had a choice on purchase and elected for Win XP, but then I did my own install of Win7 upgrading from WIN XP using the Dell disk.

I don't have a sticker but have the Product ID, OEM as it is from Dell.

As they gave you a choice we might get lucky on 2 counts
Is there a product code on the W7 discs packaging,
please run this tool
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

post the results and ill check.

Roy

On the disk itself is a CN number but doesn't look like the product ID. The Product ID shows in Control Panel> System under Windows is Activated, so I assume that is the correct Product ID.

The two Updates that I couldn't install have now disappeared from the updates to be installed list after I did a reboot so I assume they have been installed.

Hi Freddie,
theres still way to much corruption on your system, BUT that shouldn't interfere with the w10 upgrade its the updates that really matter.
Have you run the w10 upgrade adviser? or have the flag in the bottom right corner of you comp.

I haven't tried to upgrade to Win10 since I discovered all the update failures. I have a small white flag on my taskbar that recommends that I upgrade now.

I tried to download http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012 but Save File is grayed out.

Win 10 upgrade started the download then after a while it stopped and Windows Update opened up and there were 3 updates not installed, so I guess that was why. I am now going to try and install them manually from the Update Catalog.

Windows 10 download fails

Time after time Windows 10 upgrade starts downloading then fails with a message to install updates. Trying to install updates also fails. I've tried hiding the updates but Windows 10 download still fails and tells me to install updates.

I connect WD MyPassport for backups, but had a previous WD external hard drive.

Boot order is CD/DVD. Hard Disk, USB

I have downloaded to USB Windows 10 Upgrade. Do you suggest I put off installation until errors are fixed or will the upgrade fix the errors?
