What built in backup program ?

Windows Backup, or something an oem has put in there?

What do you mean backup - is it just files, or did you make an image of your operating system ?

Where did you store this "backup" ?

What dvd do you not have - do you mean the manufacturer recovery discs - or do you mean windows 7 installation dvd?

You seem to have an HP install disc - isn't there a restore function on that?

I used the hp backup program. I think it saved files, drivers etc but no disk image. I put it on an external HDD. I am missing the windows 7 installation dvd (I never got it). In my hp recovery manager, the complete recovery option is in grey, I can't click on it.

Looks like it can't access the recovery partition.

Never mind , a clean reinstall with a fresh .iso and the product key off the sticker on your machine is probably better anyway.

I can't download the software to make a save because I don't have Facebook and when I re-install windows as explained, it still seems to boot on the corrupted one.

You don't need Facebook to do anything here, and I would stay away from it.

You need to be a lot more specific about the problems you are having. This is an interactive forum where we give you steps and you reply back with the results or questions to get the steps done.

I don't know of any download in the tutorial requires Facebook but please be specific so we can help you proceed.

If you already reinstalled and you still have the old WIn7 on the PC then you didn't follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 to delete partitions during install and create new one as you wish or just click Next to let the installer create and format your install partition for you.

I would do it over and this time follow the steps closely and if you have any questions ask back fully so we can help you and not just have to guess what you're trying to ask.

There's likely some obscure software (possible Paragon Rescue) which now requests registration via FB but it can be skipped. I don't have the time to go through every link in tutorial to find out which so maybe OP will enlighten us.
