My computer does not recognize a zip file. Canon sent me a firmware for my camera. I downloaded the zip, right clicked and there was no zip unpack. I double clicked and it has crashed my computer. The file is "eos6d-v113-win" I am running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and IE 10. Thanks for any help. Art

I would look on the Canon site for the file and see if it has an MD5Sum for it. Then use an MD5Summer program to compute the MD5 of the file you have. If it doesn't match the MD5 string, it's corrupted.

There are many free MD5 programs on the web for download. Also many file managers have the function built in. I wrote this one:
http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/File-Management/MD5Hash.shtml

but there are many to choose from.

Thank you for your reply. There are over twenty camera sites that have discussed the download and no problems with anyone. I was thinking that the file extension may not be recognized by my computer as a zip file. Everyone that right clicked on the file had unzip as an option. Mine doesn't. Thanks for your thoughts. he means that your computer made a mistake when downloading, and the file might be corrupt, damaged.

Sometimes, happens. Download the package again and try another time.

Also it's good to have a 3rd party tool like 7-zip. That way you can try both. If 7-zip works and the built-in doesn't, you know it's likely to be a Windows problem. If they both fail it's more likely the zip file.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. I am in Paris for a month with my iPad. My computer is in SoCal. I'll try the tips when I get back. Thanks again. Art
