Hi all. Long time reader just signed up.

I'm having a very strange problem when trying to copy a zip file from one drive to another. I get "Windows Explorer has stopped responding" when trying to copy a zip file (I have WinRAR x64 installed). However, if I go into cmd and rename the ***.zip to ***.pih (or any other unidentified file extension) it copies no problem, and then I can rename it back to .zip and all is fine.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I can get round it by renaming in cmd, but it's a bit of a pain.

Thanks in advance :)

What size is the file? Does it happen with all .zip files? What type drives are involved in the Copy or Move process? WinRAR shouldn't be involved when it's only a file stored on a drive but you might try uninstalling WinRAR as a test. If that proves to be the issue might try 7-Zip or Zipeg, both free.

On this instance, it's from a network drive to a local drive. It used to happen with mkvs too, so I uninstalled a free movie player and that solved it. I'll try uninstalling winrar.

Other PCs on the network don't have the issue from the same drive.
