I have an Acer Aspire, with Windows 7, and after 2 weeks of slowed usage, my computer crashed, and gave me a "Missing Boot MGR" message upon start up. I ordered the system repair disk, and followed the instructions. When the option to choose an operating system to fix comes up, the box is blank. I have searched and searched for a way to make it recognize it, and I just can't come to it. I tried to do a clean reinstall, but I am nowhere near technologically savvy enough for that. Please help!!

Also, when I run the bootrec.exe methods, and Scan for Operating system, it picks up 0 Windows Installations. I don't understand.

The disk I ordered is titled "System Recovery and Restore for Windows 7 home Premium 32-bit" Is this disk sufficient for uploading the OS? Or do I have to purchase one? Thank you so much for your help! I do have access to another Windows 7 laptop, is there something I can do to transfer this system, to that one?

Yeesh, I am in over my head. I have no idea where the Motherboard is, much less how to get information off of it.

The motherboard is inside the laptop, there's no need to worry about it.

Read the tutorial carefully. There is a link to download a copy of Windows 7 to be used with the license you got with your laptop. Read the whole tutorial a couple of times to get familiar with what you have to do. In fact, print it out so you have something to refer to as you go.

You can do a system restore with your restore disks if you want to, but a clean install is better. There's no bloatware that gets installed with the OS.

One important thing: Get the make and model of your laptop from the bottom of the case and go to the manufacturer's website and get all of your drivers. Especially your network drivers. Windows will install most of the drivers you need, but it may not install the network driver so you'll have no internet to get more drivers and updates for Windows from Windows Update.

Finally, if you don't feel comfortable reinstalling Windows, take the laptop to a repair shop and have them do it.

If you'd still like to try to repair Win7 then everything that can possibly be done is here for http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219533-troubleshooting-windows-7-failure-boot.html leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to do the Clean Reinstall or run Factory Recovery.

Sometimes the Bootrec commands and especially the Bootsect command in Use Bootrec.exe in the Windows RE to troubleshoot startup issues can force an OS to appear to repair when you boot into Repair disk so you can proceed with Startup Repair and the other repairs in tutorial.
