Hello,
This is my first post. I recently had a new PC built by a reputable computer business Have included the new specs for my new build when I signed up to this forum. I printed off 2 tuts. How to do a clean install with Windows 7 and How to clean reinstall a factory OEM Windows 7. I am confused to which tut to use. I bought the Windows 7 64bit Home Edition (Intended for distribution with a new PC) Includes service pack 1. Key no. sticker has been put on computer case.
I want to keep this old working computer in action till I know the new PC is up and running properly before I totally pull the plug on this old working PC. When I setup my new PC can I just plugin the current wireless mouse and corded keyboard from this old working PC to do the Windows 7 OS install ? I have 2 external HD's connected to the old working PC, (1x2TB +1X500GB) and have backed up most stuff on these. Can I transfer my files over down the track? What about the "C" drive. Is their anything important that needs to be transferred to the new PC. This is very new to me. Had the new build here for 2 weeks now and a guy put me onto this forum from another forum because he said this is the forum wheir I can find help.

You can use all your current outboard gear (mouse keyboard, disks, etc.) on the new system. Drivers usually get installed automatically when you attach the device.

Regarding stuff on C - that is really up to you to check whether there is anything in the user folders (Documents, Pictures, Videos, Music) that you care to keep. If yes, copy it to your external disk for later use.

None of the system and program files from the old system can be transferred. Programs have to be reinstalled. But you might want to save your favorites from your browser.

The switch is really straight forward. Just follow common sense. If you encounter problems, let us know. Keep your old system running until you are comfortable with the new build.

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 can be helpful to remind you everything that needs to be backed up and not forgotten, the tools and methods which work best with Win7. It is more directed to reinstalling a factory PC but compiles enough useful tips you can get and keep a perfect install.

You'll need to determine if you have a UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS - YouTube.

The illustrated steps for UEFI install were linked above by Theog: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

The illustrated steps for normal install are in Clean Install Windows 7

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice and links. I shall ask again if I have probs.
