My jumplist keeps disappearing randomly

A few weeks ago randomly my windows explorer jumplist disappeared from one minute to the next.

After finally getting most of the locations I had in there back, it just now did the same. In one minute I got 5 folders pinned to it and a number in the jumplist history, in the next everything is gone except 1 pinned location.

I recently ran virus and malware scans, so it's something else. Is there anyway to prevent this? Can I at least make a backup of the jumplist file, so if it happens again I can just restore the file?

I'm using windows 7 home premium.

Have you checked your Jump List settings in Task Bar properties. Right click on the Task Bar & select Properties, click on the Start Menu tab & make sure you have the box that says "Store & display recently opened items in the Start menu" ticked. Then select Customise & check that the 2 items at the bottom, under "Start menu size" have the number of listed items that you want. After you have set it up, click on Apply.

Do you use so called registry cleaning programs or Windows tune up programs, as some of these may be causing you jump list to be reset. These programs are not necessary & usually cause more problems that they fix.

Do you use CCleaner if so, then uncheck the box in it that clears the Start menu.

As I said, I've been using jumplists already so they were obviously enabled.

The article mentioned 2 folders I didn't have, AutomaticDestinations and CustomDestinations. I created these but how does that prevent my current jumplist from disappearing?

I also found a windows update for this, KB2607576 but I cannot install it on my pc because it is "not applicable to my computer".
Out of desperation I tried every version of the installer but the others don't work either.

Does anyone maybe know the name of the jumplist file for windows explorer? Because if I can just backup that file it's enough for me.

There is no need to get testy, we are only trying to help you & we all do it in our own time.

Did you try the "Fix: Fix jump list missing or disappeared permanently in Windows 7." that I posted in Post #5 & did any of the solutions work.

Is there anyway to prevent this?
The place where the info is stored might be messed up. You might be able to correct that by removing all of the info and letting Windows rebuild it. These steps let you remove the info: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/81483-jump-lists-reset-clear-all-items.html

Can I at least make a backup of the jumplist file, so if it happens again I can just restore the file?
You might be backing up bad info, but here are the steps to do so: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/213161-jump-lists-backup-restore-windows-7-a.html

Just because you do not see the folders, does not mean that they are (were) not there :-(

There is not one jump list file. There are lots of them. See the link/thread mentioned below for more info.

See this post and read thru the somewhat related thread: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-...ber-memory-system-tray-alone.html#post3097809

These good folks are trying to help.

Read through your thread again and then let these good folks know exactly what suggestions you have tried and exactly what results you got.
