My keyboard and mouse functions randomly change

Every so often I get this problem where my keyboard/mouse functions change.

-With the keyboard it's usually a SHIFT lock (not CAPS lock), that is every button that I hit expresses a character or function like as if I was holding down SHIFT.

-With the mouse there are several problems. Left clicking "sticks", so any field where you can select text or draw a selection box will have that happen when I move the mouse around after clicking somewhere in the field. Left clicking any link or bookmark causes it to open in a new page to be loaded. The scroll wheel function changes to forward and back, rather than scrolling up and down. The right mouse button does it's own tricks, but I can't remember it exactly.

This has happened with two different sets of keyboards/mice operating with different drivers. The only solution is to restart, unplugging doesn't solve the trick. I cannot recall exactly what I may have installed around the time the problem showed up unfortunately.

So what's the deal exactly? Anyone experienced this?

My suggestion would be to check your system for any malware, spyware and adware that might be lingering around, which can cause such problems your are experiencing. Next would be to make sure your system is completely updated with MS updates, all hardware drivers from the respected vendors/manufactures, and then all software. A BIOS update is worth looking at as well. Then check your keyboard/mouse settings for any changes. The only other two options left are kind of drastic, which are a system restore and a complete re-install of the OS.

A virus scan using Malwarebytes won't hurt. You can download the free version here: Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer

Are you using a desktop computer or a laptop? If it is the latter you might want to disable the touchpad if you're using a USB or wireless mouse as well.

Thanks guys. I might have found the issue.
Malwarebytes found a file, "RemoveWat.exe", to be Malware. The purpose of this program is to disable the Windows utility that detects your copy of the OS as non-genuine. I kept getting, "Please update to a genuine copy of Windows" and my desktop would reset, despite that I am using a legitimate copy. This program fixed the issue.

This very well may be the last thing I did before these problems popped up. Now I don't believe this program is technically "Malware" but it's possible some of the changes it does to get rid of WAT have in turn caused these issues.

My problem is if I do remove this (it has a remove and restore function built-in) I'll once again get that issue where it's detecting my genuine copy as non-genuine. Typing in the CD-Key has done nothing but delay the problem only for it to show up again a few days later. xD

My question is: Is there a way to fix that darn genuine bug without using this kind of program, which upon looking up just now, does seem to cause completely random problems...

I think your best bet is to remove it, and then take up the validation issue directly with Microsoft.

I'm sure if you explain the problem they'll help you to "legitimize" your copy of Windows.
