My keyboard and mouse keep getting locked out

It always happens when I click on a link (say in gmail) that takes me to another site. As soon as the site appears the screen freezes and the mouse and keyboard are locked out. The mouse pointer wont move. I've tried restoring Windows files several times without success and cleaning out the registry using the CC cleaner. It started about three weeks ago and at that time no new programs were added or since.

Any and all help greatly appreciated.

I'm running W7 Home on a Samsung RV510 laptop.

Have you tried reinstalling the browser that this occurs on?

Check Task Manager, anything not recognized running in the background?

Thanks for the reply. No I havent tried that but I will. I moved over to Chrome and that hasnt froze once. Tried the task manager I could see nothing running that shouldnt be. Cheers

No problem man! That's good that there's nothing unrecognized man. Yeah, go ahead and do that, if it doesn't work I would suggest checking to see if there are any new updates for your USB drivers. Let me know what happens, and good luck

Hi just to let you know it didnt work. It did for a few days but then bonk it happened again and several times since. Gone back to Chrome though I much prefer FF.

It may be some sort of incompatibility with FF and my laptop as it never happens on my desktop. But Mucho grasias for your help.

Are you sure the screen freezes? You can open up a video from a website such as YouTube in one window, and reproduce the problem in another window. If the video stops moving, the screen is frozen, and if the video continues to play, then the mouse and keyboard have just lost functionality and you cannot type or move the mouse which gives the appearance that the screen has frozen. A possibility if the screen is freezing is that your computer is locking up-there aren't enough free system resources and the computer stops responding until it is freed up. On the front of your computer, there are usually lights, which indicate HDD activity and power. The HDD light is usually red or has a symbol that looks like a cylinder. If it's flashing rapidly or lit for a long time while you are frozen, your computer is probably locked up from too little resources. Anyway, if you don't experience this in Chrome or anywhere else, it probably isn't worth taking the time to troubleshoot it. Although Chrome used to be the more resource-hungry internet browser, Firefox is starting to use more and more resources. With 4 tabs, it uses half a gigabyte of RAM.
