My Microsoft IDs?

Hi,

Like many of us, I have multiple MS products, most upgraded over the years and some more recent. I am about to install OneNote and it is asking for me to Sign In. And this makes me aware that I have no record of all my other IDs with MS. While it probably doesn't matter, I'd at least like to have some control over the situation. How do I find out my MS registered profile/s or logins?

My OS is Windows 7, I have IE13, Office 2010 with Outlook, Silverlight, a Hotmail account or two, LiveID (but don't know if I have used it). OneNote seems to have just installed its component of Office 2013.

Try using one of your Hotmail account ID's. This may be something to do with One Drive which is Microsoft's Cloud service. I have OneNote 2013 as part of Office 2013 & I had to use an ID to get office to install, but as I don't use the cloud I have not been asked for an ID again.

If you are using OneDrive for cloud storage, use that same account. OneNote integrates really nicely to OneDrive and Office Online free apps.

Usually you want your Microsoft software to be assosiated with your main MS account, in your case the Hotmail account that you consider as your "main" account.

LiveID is nowadays called Microsoft (MS) Account. Every Hotmail.com, Outlook.com, Live.com, MSN.com is automatically an MS Account.

I use only 1 MS account, the same one I've had since the early 90's. Makes things much simpler.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
Thanks everyone. Can't remember when I last used Hotmail but I don't suppose it matters so long as I'm registered. Also, I have Dropbox, use it a little, mainly because a number of people I correspond with also use it. OneDrive I assume is similar. And this is what syncs with OneNote?

Yes. OneNote app on your PC works very well with its counterpart online.

When you sign in to Hotmail, or Outlook.com as it is called today you have the Online App Button top left. From there you can select any Office Online app and create or edit your documents, spreadsheets, presentations and notebooks. If your OneNote desktop app is connected to your Hotmail email account (= Microsoft Account, formerly known as Live ID), it will be automatically synced online. You can make your notes at home, go to holiday in Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso ;) and use hotel's computer there to sign in to your Hotmail and open your notebook.

Notice that terminology has changed a bitm Microsoft has been busy in renaming their services. Old Hotmail addresses work as such on Outlook.com, you can sign in to your Hotmail at outlook.com, hotmail.com or live.com but all of these take you after a successful sign in to outlook.com.

Repeating myself but let's be sure and check this one more time:
  • Microsoft Account
    • Short: MS Account
    • Was formerly known as Live ID
    • Every Hotmail.com, Live.com, MSN.com, Outlook.com email is an MS Account
Just sign in to OneNote, come back if you have more questions. I love OneNote, it really is practical :).

Will do, thanks. A bit tied up for a day or so, may leave it for the weekend. I'll keep this open for possible issues or further advice.
