Hello guys!

i just got a small pretty cool Network Video Recorder, cameras over network, less cabling better quality, i am happy with it, but id like to take advantage of the remote monitoring functions too.

The system has a LAN jack for the internet connection in the rear and in my house, the internet is provided by a wireless modem. the only port it has is a micro usb.

other than getting an additional service from my ISP only for that:cry:, what can i do?

i have too little knowledge on networking, i did a small network with a laptop and a wireless router in order to use the app in my phone to adjust the camera position, i mean, i did use the remote monitoring fuction but it only works if my phone and the system are in the same network. What i did is, i use another laptop i have around there i enabled the internet sharing so i connect the laptop to internet via wifi and the NVR to the laptop via LAN cable, the system did recognize the internet,, and my app too but when i wanted to view the cameras, no video at all, then i decide to try to then (with the laptop connected to the wify, to connect the laptop to the router IN line, and to connect the NVR to the router, and then i created a second wifi network with that router and then it work, but only work if both the NVR and the cellphone are in the same network.

but id like to do this without having a router and a computer all time and without the need of be in the same network in order to work.

i understand a router is for providing internet over wifi or lan, but is there a possibility to use the router (which has both lan and wifi function) to "catch" internet over wifi then to provide internet over LAN to the NVR?

or, then, the laptop does provide internet over lan but then it does not work inthe app.

what can i do?

thank you guys

I would buy a router that is capable of connecting to your first router by wireless and hook the camera with a lan cable to the new router. Everything would be on the same network.

What your looking for would be called a range extender, Some of the more decent all in one routers are capable of this and for around $50 or a bit less should cover it.

Or you could go with Powerline networking which will connect the lan cable to your AC house wiring and hook that to your ISP's router.

The "first" router is wireless and wired.
Remember, the target is to connect the NVR system to the internet so i can use the app to watch it from the internet (anywhere).

so, it would be:

The laptop catching internet over wifi, then sharing it via LAN to a router, then that router sharing internet via wifi, a second router connected to this last one over wifi, this last router connected to the NVR via LAN.
Wifi modem --> laptop --> router --> router --> NVR

all that for having access to the remote service of the NVR

thats it?

someone told me that i could solve it all with this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0195Y0A42

I'm not sure it looks like it has an Ethernet port, For this to work it must have at least one Ethernet port for the camera to plug into, It more than likely would work.

Are you using the Belkin router for anything right now because if you can move it there are several tutorial's online that can show you how to make a wireless bridge with it.

Yes it has one ethernet port
no, i am not using the Belking router, so i can completely dedicate it for that, it would be perfect if it works for this

you gave me enough information about it i will see if i put it in practice this night, the only ting i am worried now is, about the configuration of the router, it needs a pc to access, and the camera system works without the pc, i guess i must configure it in a pc and once configured then to connect it to the camera system

Thak you a lot for your time

The only thing I want to know is what is the exact make and model of the NVR. This solution might be simpler than it sounds here.

I just looked up your belkin router it's very old technology ~2009, Although this will work I am not sure how reliable it will be, WiFi back then was not the best in the world.

You might have to downgrade the WiFi security settings on your white router to get the belkin to connect to it.

I would get it working with what you got right now and see how you like it but I would defiantly keep my eye's open for a good deal on a router, As fo that TP-Link N300 Wifi Extender you linked to I would personally buy one that's a bit better, One with more LAN ports and probably closer to the $50 price tag -- You get what you pay for.

yeah its pretty old, and yes it is reliable, i bought that in order to replace a lot more modern netgear i had, the netgear constantly had signal drop and constant reset of the settings and was common in those netgear then i got that older belking, not the fastest but for the service i have contracted from my ISP for that time, and EVEN NOW the speed is fine.
