So Lately I been getting this problem where I put my computer to sleep and then turn it back on it loses its sound, its saying there is no driver installed, I have to reboot the system and then go to the bios to turn off the integrated sound and then turn it back on and sometimes after it doesn't even pick it up . Any ideas ?

Also when I turn it on the driver isn't even red or yellow in the device manager.
Audio driver : SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC(for 64-bit windows)
Computer: Dell XPS 420 Windows 7 64bit

Thanks

Boris

First issue, are you using the Dell supplied SigmaTel driver? If not, that could be the problem. I used to do a lot of support on the Dell forum and we found non-Dell sound drivers either do not work or do not work correctly.

Dell has a Vista driver and that should work OK on Windows 7 (Dell does not officially support Win 7 on this model).

Download and install the Dell driver and see if that helps.

Hi Boris,

As very well mentioned by “firebird”, am sure you must have tried that option and it should have fixed the issue. If the issue still persists and if this issue started occurring after doing some recent software changes on your computer, then I would suggest you to try restoring your system back to a date when it was working fine. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only.

For System Restore steps, you can refer to the URL mentioned: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/system-restore
