hello wise ones. I recently installed a fresh copy of Windows 7 on a lady's laptop, put back her personal files from her external drive, and gave it back to her with everything appearing as it ought. However, since she has had it back, each time she boots up, she gets a yellow triangle with exclamation mark appearing on her desktop, with the word 'error'. No other information, and if she clicks on it, it goes away until next boot. Any ideas what that might be? Got me stumped. She did say she had had trouble getting the computer to see her wireless printer, but succeeded and now it works better than before ( her words). maybe it has something to do with that. I don't suppose it will appear in event viewer will it? Any thoughts would be most appreciated.

Try dragging and drop in Recycle bin.
I would also recommend do a series of scans for infection. Anytime something appears on a system a infection is possible.

It may be a system file has been corrupted. Try SFC by having her follow the instructions at the following link;

See the part of this post that talks about using TeamViewer to help others. If you work thru that the next time you have the computer or via phone with her, then you can identify the app that makes the window via the info in this post. Just drag/drop the target from Process Explorer onto the window that she sees at start up.

UI, that is a thought. I have TeamViewer, though not set up yet. The other option is to get her to come by with the laptop on her way back from work some time, so I can actually eye-ball it and poke around myself. Thank you.

yes, useful isn't it. The lady I am trying to help has not come back to me since I last e-mailed, so I am wondering if the problem has gone away or she is just busy...
