NAS and Windows 7

I am interested in a NAS HD but I am running Windows 7.

Are there any NAS devices that run with Windows 7 without having to rewrite about half of the registry? (exaggerating slightly to make my point!!)

I am not confident or competent enough to delve deeply into the inner workings of the registry

I'm not adverse to doing a little tinkering.

I've had a qnap 409 turbo nas for a year and started with 2 desktops running xp home and another xp pro,and a laptop running vista. I've recently upgraded to w7 1 w7 ultimate, 2 desktops and 2 laptops running home premium. Absolutist no problems. I stream music via squeezebox and video via popcorn hour. I have some hd video which will not stream because i don't have a gigabyte network switch, other than that there's need to edit any registy settings as far as I can see.

Oldun you can try Seagate Blackarmor NAS 110 1TB Network Attached Storage (though you haven't mentioned your system specs., please do so that always help us to give right resolution) & its compatible with both x32 & x64 systems, you might wanna check this for details: Windows 7 Compatibility for Seagate Blackarmor NAS 110 1TB Network Attached Storage: Seagate. Your system spec shows that you are using a Win 7 Home premium which doesn't go well with NAS device its a known issue though no official word from Microsoft, so, here is a trick that will help you add a new key to the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet>Control>LSA and in the right hand box created a new key called LMCompatibilityLevel with a value of 1 (from 0).
Immediately on reboot the NAS device should connect (but without the required password).

I have an Acer Aspire 5920G laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium and an Advent 4211B netbook with the same OS. They are connected to Sky broadband via a Netgear router supplied by sky (black).

I have a Synology DS209, attached to a dlink dir-635. It runs fine on on al my computers (Vista and Win7).
Mosts synology nas-es have the shame firmware, so I guess most Synolygy nas-es wil work.
